Position Summary:
The Electrician is responsible for, and possess the necessary skills in, providing the daily scheduling, hands-on physical labor, maintenance, and coordination of electrical components required to keep all parks, open spaces, and public amenities including all indoor and outdoor lighting, heating, and power needs for structures under Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) jurisdiction in a safe and operable condition. The incumbent also serves as the lead to the Assistant Electricians and is expected to be conscious and proactive towards making BPCA a model of sustainable practices and kept to the standards in which all those who live, work, and visit Battery Park City (BPC) have come to expect As with all positions, this position will continually exemplify and promote the core values, mission, and culture of BPCA
Essential Duties:

Strong knowledge of light, heat, and power:
- Perform electrical tasks such as wire an electric ballast or transformer kit, run new electrical installations, identify, and trace branch lighting circuits, and install single and 3 phase motors.
- Lead the electrical team of two (2) Assistant Electricians
- Troubleshoot and prioritize electrical issues.
- Schedule, assign and follow up with preventative maintenance tasks accordingly and appropriately.
- Maintain, update, and create appropriate records, standard operating procedures, and protocols.
- Utilize, and manage work requests and work orders with BPCA used software.
- Always maintain a high standard for safety, by timely and safety cautioning off sites for workplace and public safety, use personal protective equipment and ensure assistants and adhere to OSHA, PESH, Federal, State and City rules and regulations.
- Safely and effectively operate tools and equipment such as bobcats, vehicles, lifts, benders, drills, pipe threading, knockouts, AMP Probe and Volt Meter.
- Identify and report park issues and hazards appropriately and timely.
- Collaborate with assistants, other staff and contractors as directed.
- Ensure tools, vehicles, and worksites are kept in a clean and organized manner.
- Be available to respond to and handle emergency electrical situations as directed.
- Perform, assign, and oversee computer and software work such as ordering, research, and work order management.
- Ensure appropriate inventory of necessary and commonly used supplies, tools and parts are onsite and available and exhibit fiscal responsibility.
- Perform emergency and non-emergency work as assigned such as programmed and permitted events, severe weather events including snow and ice removal and flood protection measures, during and outside regular working hours.
- Compose memos, letters, and recommendations as necessary and appropriate.
- Always maintain professionalism, including when interacting with the public.
- Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience as an Electrician
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience of leading a team
- OSHA 30 Certified
- Valid US Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications, higher education and/or training on relevant skills
- Experience working in public settings
- Knowledge of sustainable practices
Skills:
- Possess an excellent knowledge of light, heat and power needs
- Knowledge of up-to-date electrical codes and regulations such as NEC, NFPA and DOB
- Ability to read electrical specifications, blueprints, and schematics
- Have knowledge of low voltage and 24-volt wiring and motor control circuits
- Must be able to work independently and in a team setting and exhibit good judgment
- Must be able to interact with all levels of management and staff
- Ability to learn new skills and maintain up to date information on relevant skills and techniques
- •Knowledge in Microsoft
Physical Requirements:
- Must be willing and able to perform physical labor outdoors in all types of weather
- Stand, sit and squat for long periods of time
- Perform repetitive movements
- Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 pounds
- Must have the physical ability and desire to work with materialsUses their hands/body to control, use, and feel objects, tools and control
