Electrician inspects, repairs, installs, and maintains electrical systems, machinery, and equipment. Ensures all work performed meets required safety codes and is properly inspected. Being an Electrician uses a variety of tools and equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Electrician typically requires Electrician License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Electrician works under moderate supervision. GENERAL FUNCTION: The electrician installs and repairs wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard vessels and in the facility.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:
Follows blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
Installs conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws and threads wires through conduit to terminals such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators and switch panels.
Connects power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control and other electronic equipment.
Tests electrical characteristics, such as voltage, resistance and phase angle I circuits using meters and indicators.
May construct and install instrument panels, using hand tools, rulers, dividers and power drills, following specifications.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of blueprints and drawings or schematics preferred.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Prior experience, as an electrician is required with experience in an industrial or shipyard environment preferred. Switchboard Experience Preferred.
