Position Summary
The Data Specialist is a key part of the Network Data Team at FirstLine Schools. This person plays an important role in ensuring effective and efficient use of data and systems to help drive results and ensure compliance with all LDOE reporting. The Data Specialist leads all LDOE data collections - including student, staff, and scheduling data - to prepare and submit state and federal reports on schedule. The Data Specialist works with and supports school-based staff to ensure that accurate student and staff records are maintained at all times. In addition to state reporting responsibilities, the Data Specialist collaborates with members of the Network Data Team to maintain PowerSchool SIS and generate ad-hoc analyses to support FirstLine leaders with key decision-making.
Position Responsibilities
Data Systems Training
Delivers training to key staff in the following data systems:
- PowerSchool SIS;
- EdLink;
- Acts as PowerSchool super user, including training school-based staff;
- Other training and support as needed.
State Reporting
- Serve as district security coordinator managing staff access to state data systems.
Coordinate submissions to state systems for all reporting periods including:
- EdLink – Louisiana Department of Education Data Warehouse;
- MFP reporting (10/1, 2/1, EOY);
- CLASS reporting (Staff and Students);
- Other student demographic information (504, Homeless, LEP, etc…).
eSER- Special Education Reporting
- Manage user access;
- Assist the SPED department with SPED data reports.
eScholar
- Manage all student LASIDs;
- Manage all staff LASIDs.
Provide support to relevant internal departments and stakeholders to prepare submission of data to:
- eScholar – lunch status for annual CEP submission;
- DCAI - Dropout Credit Accountability Index;
- CVR - Curriculum Verification Reporting;
- CRDC - Civil Rights Data Collection;
- CIS - Compass Information System;
- I&O - Interests & Opportunities.
Serving as the main point of contact for school support staff and HR teams for timely and accurate submission of state reporting as follows:
- Work closely with school-based staff to ensure compliance with student data reporting;
- Work closely with FirstLine HR department to ensure compliance with staff data reporting.
Responsible for coordinating data compilation to comply with all external student data requests, including but not limited to:
- LDOE audits;
- NOLA Public Schools audits;
- Grant funding reports;
- Sharing documents from the LDOE secure FTP site to the correct staff;
- Staying up to date on LDOE policy changes and communications via routine review of emails, newsletters, and other publications ;
- Other state reporting duties as assigned.
Systems Administration
- Monitors student information systems to ensure high levels of data integrity;
- Designs, documents, and implements systems maintenance procedures and protocols, including the creation and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to state reporting and Data Specialist scope of work;
- Effectively communicates and collaborates with end users to ensure successful use of data systems.
Cross-Functional Projects
- Responsible for coordinating multiple large-scale, long-term projects with stakeholders across the organization, including school leaders, network staff, and other data department members;
- Generates ad-hoc analyses and reporting as requested.

Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required;
- Two (2) years of data-related relevant work experience is required; relevant work acquired in a school setting is preferred;
- Experience with PowerSchool and EdLink a plus;
- Expert-level user in Excel/Google Sheets;
- Commitment to FirstLine Schools’ mission and vision;
- Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding schools for all students;
- Demonstrated ability to complete complex data analyses and models;
- Strong analytical background with experience managing and analyzing large volumes of data;
- Experience managing multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment is required;
- Experience with researching to solve problems required;
- Experience with database administration required;
- Experience teaching in K-12 education a plus;
- Experience with SQL is a plus.
