  • The Director of Operational Excellence is a pivotal role, responsible for optimizing Russell’s construction processes and systems, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. This strategic leadership position requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in construction operations and project management including the use and oversight of VDC, and a proven track record of implementing successful process improvements.


    Successful candidate will take over direct reporting from IT/IS and VDC departments as well as be a key thought leader for Russell’s overall innovation goals and objectives while taking ownership of Technical Systems, i.e. the people, processes, tools and materials needed, to ensure all parts work together for the business to delivery on its strategy.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    • Lead and represent a “One Russell” philosophy with our team from conception of a project through turnover using the standardized tools and practices to achieve consistent execution.
    • Implement corporate goals and initiatives.
    • Manage and support all aspects of the Russell business model, including development, sales, preconstruction, construction operations.
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive operational excellence strategy aligned with organizational goals.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for assessing operational performance.
    • Identify areas for process optimization and implement improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Lead cross-functional teams to analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement streamlined processes.
    • Implement and oversee quality management systems to ensure construction projects meet or exceed industry standards and client expectations.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize potential disruptions to construction projects.
    • Collaborate with project teams to identify and address potential risks, ensuring proactive measures are in place.
    • Partner with department heads, subject matter experts and operations leaders to evaluate and integrate cutting-edge technologies and construction management software to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
    • Champion the adoption of digital tools that enhance collaboration, communication, and data-driven decision-making.
    • Lead Russell’s data analytics strategy; developing KPI’s, dashboard creation and management, PowerBI reporting, etc.
    • Develop and implement training programs to ensure employees at all levels are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the construction teams.

    Educational and experience requirements include bachelor’s degree in construction engineering, construction management, civil engineering, IT systems or related field. 5-10 years of experience in a senior leadership role within the construction industry with a proven track record of successfully implementing operational excellence initiatives and process. Excellent leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital.
