Emergency Dispatcher is responsible for responding to calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance and dispatching law enforcement, fire fighting, or rescue units. Transmits and receives coded and conventional messages. Being an Emergency Dispatcher differentiates between routine, priority, and emergency messages, and initiates or follows through on responses as required. Communicates details of situation and location. Additionally, Emergency Dispatcher enters unit response details into a database. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Dispatcher works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Under general supervision, to perform a variety of complex duties involved in the receipt and dispatching of calls for emergency and non-emergency law enforcement and other assistance, and to perform a variety of general clerical duties in support of the Police Department. May exercise technical and functional supervision over less experienced staff.
A POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test is scheduled for March 30, 2024, at 8 AM at Clearlake City Hall. Please be prepared to attend if you have not taken the test within the last 180 calendar days prior to the test date and scored over 48 on the test.
