Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.   • The Occupational Health Services Emergency Medical Technician provides onsite promotion and restoration of health and the prevention/treatment of illness and injury.

     Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

    ·         Interacts positively and professionally with applicants, employees and leaders pertaining to OHS services and functions.

    ·         Promote safety and health to all associates with education, information, and example.

    ·         Provide medical care and first aid in accordance with Protocols and Standing Orders within the scope of practice for licensure.

    ·         Provide health appropriate evaluations and treatment for work and non-work-related injuries and illnesses.

    ·         Perform drug and alcohol testing per policy.

    ·         Assist with case management strategies for work related injuries and illnesses.

    ·         Participate in Incident investigations as necessary.

    ·         Serves as liaison with medical claims adjusters, medical providers, and/or counsel for workers’ compensation.

    ·         Maintains accurate documentation and assists in departmental medical records upkeep.

    ·         Serve as part of the on-call weekend/holiday rotation for OHS.

    ·         Participate in Safety, Health Services, and Human Resources projects within the facility.

     Additional Responsibilities:

     Other duties and projects as assigned.

    ·         Ability to accurately, efficiently, and timely execute tasks.

    ·         Ability to use sound judgment and discretion while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

    ·         Strong interpersonal, teamwork and relationship management skills.

    ·         Energetic, reliable, and resourceful; exhibit initiative and creativity.

    ·         Ability to be flexible and resourceful in response to changing priorities and needs.

    ·         Able to use independent thinking with medical knowledge and legal limitations to make appropriate decisions and recommendations.

    ·         Proficient with various MS applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

    ·         Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills to communicate effectively with management, front-line leaders, and employees.

    ·         Occasional time in the processing/ production area.

    ·         Ability to function in a fast paced/ changing environment with multiple demands at one time.

    ·         Detail oriented and organized.

    ·         Effective time management and prioritization skills

    Education & Experience: 

     

    ·         Current NC Emergency Medical Technician certification

    ·         Current certification in First Aid, CPR and AED required.

    ·         1 years’ experience in health care preferred.

    ·         Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
