Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Provides patient care under the supervision of the Emergency Department (ED) Physician. Technical skills/assessments and patient care activities within the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) personnel scope of practice may be assigned/delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN). Skill set approved by NC-OEMS (NC Office of Emergency Medical Services) will be utilized, within the parameters established by the Nursing and Medical Directors leadership; oversight for clinical practice will be provided by the Medical Director. This position serves the following patient age categories: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Work involves serving as a care team member in the Emergency Department in accordance to the Scope of Practice set forth by the Non-Traditional Practice Setting Agreement with the N.C. Office of EMS.
Associate or Bachelor Degree in Emergency Medical Science preferred, BLS, ACLS, PALS Required, Current N.C. EMT-Paramedic certification required/National Registry EMT-Paramedic preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of EMS paramedic-level experience desired.
