Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     BluePearl Specialty Emergency Pet Hospital in Monterey, CA is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

    Pay: $24.00 - $49.00 / hour

    This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system.

    We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

    • Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

    For example:

    • Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.00 Shift Differential

    • Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.50 Shift Differential

    • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.00 Shift Differential


    BluePearl Specialty Emergency Pet Hospital, the role of Veterinary Technician is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity that will allow you to utilize the skills that you have worked so hard to gain. We will also give you the chance to expand and grow your skills, all while working alongside some of the most talented veterinary professionals.


    As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:


    • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.

    • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.

    • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.

    • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.

    • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.

    • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.

    • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.

    • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.

    • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.

    • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.

    • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

    Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
