Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Job Summary:

    Assists in providing direct, and in-direct patient care under direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Charge Nurse. Provides individualized care plan for patient presentation. Acts as a clinical resource for students, those being oriented and volunteers.

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Work Experience:

    • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
    • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification: Required
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
    • Valid Oregon EMT License: Required in OR (National Registry Preferred)
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) Healthcare Provider or equivalent: Required in OR
    • NAEMT PHTLS or equivalent within 6 months: Required in OR
    • EVOC/EVOS or equivalent: Required in OR
    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or National Emergency Medical Tech (NEMT): Required

    Essential Functions:

    • Provides individualized care plan for patient presentation.
    • Collects, records and communicates basic patient data, current and changing status.
    • Cleans, inspects, assembles and sterilizes trays and equipment in accordance with established departmental procedures.
    • Takes immediate and appropriate action upon occurrence of emergency situation within job description and policies.
    • Participates in continuing/advanced education which demonstrates employee commitment to improving capabilities.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
