Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     The Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society accredited Advanced Veterinary Specialists as a Level II Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Facility in January 2015. Only two veterinary hospitals in California have received the Level II distinction, and one of them is AVS!
     
    This certification is intended to recognize hospitals who go over and beyond the basic requirements set forth by VECCS. VECCS does this in an effort to raise the standard for treatment while also promoting public and professional awareness of the importance of providing emergency and critical patient care for veterinary patients.

    Some duties you will own in this role:
     
    • Triage and prioritize incoming patients
    • Stabilize patients in critical condition
    • Assist with diagnostic procedures
    • Administer medications and fluids
    • Provide wound care and post-surgical support
    • Monitor vital signs and report abnormalities
    • Assist during surgeries and emergency procedures
    • Communicate with pet owners
    • Maintain accurate medical records
    • Ensure cleanliness and sanitization
    • Educate pet owners on aftercare
    • Collaborate with the veterinary team
    • Stay updated through continuing education
    • Offer compassion and emotional support to patients and owners.
     
    Basic Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma
    • 2 years of clinical experience in the veterinary industry RVT license highly preferred
    • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients using tact, patience, professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion where appropriate
    • Consistent and reliable ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates, and other position-related calculations
    • Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60-days of hire or transfer into this role; (this requirement is waived if incumbent holds a valid CA-RVT license)
     
    • Compensation range $18.00 - $35.00 hourly plus differentials and overtime as needed. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
    • RVT or Senior Veterinary Assistant hiring bonus of up to $5,000 for new full-time employees
    Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
