Emergency Medical Technician responds to emergency calls for medical assistance, assesses the situation, obtains a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time. May require registry in NREMT. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring at the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area under the supervision of the Emergency Department Manager and the House Shift Manager. Responsible for preparing and compiling records. May assist at trained level in the care of the patient. (Refer to appropriate Job Description/Performance Review). Performs duties independently with supervision, operating from specific and definite direction and instructions. Decisions are of routine or critical nature, made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies, and procedures and within Nursing Standards of Care. Communicates new material, equipment, and procedures to all members of the team. Is responsible for performing job duties within institutional guidelines.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
New Mexico License EMT-Intermediate required.
BCLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP required. May take course through HCH Education Department. Must acquire within six months of hire.
Completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize computer programs required.
