The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency response services to the 49th Wing assigned aircraft and personnel as well as police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and coordinate dispatch response with appropriate personnel and equipment.

Responsibilities Supervises and leads three or more emergency vehicle dispatchers in the performance of emergency 911-call receiving and providing emergency dispatching services.

Once becoming certified as an EMD, the Incumbent verifies the location and call back number for a medical patient and determines the severity of the emergency situation using EMD checklists, in accordance with national standards.

Operates and maintains telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center.

Prepares National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) reports utilizing the correct response codes and categories to complete the response report for each emergency incident, in accordance with published guidelines.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, Dispatching Series, 2151.

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Knowledge and ability to orient, instruct and inform lower graded employees, distribute and balance work assignments; monitor work accomplishment and keep supervisors informed.

Knowledge of a body of standardized transportation regulations, procedures, operations and federal and state laws, policies and procedures related to the emergency dispatch function to perform a full range of dispatching duties and resolve emergency response problems.

Knowledge of proper use of communications radios and procedures sufficient to gather information from individuals in emergency situations and provide instruction to both dispatched employees and the customers on matters such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Knowledge of emergency call receiving equipment and associated Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) equipment required to received and respond to incoming emergency calls.

TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of communications operations.

Ability to read layered computerized grid maps which reflect such systems as electrical, water, gas, central heating distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and pollution control.

Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand.

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations.

Ability to work independently without immediate supervision as well as orient, instruct and inform lower graded employees, distribute/balance work assignments; monitor work accomplishment and keep supervisors informed.
