SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Director of Emergency Services serves as a critical member of Columbus House’s Program Management Team. In collaboration with the CPO, the Director of Emergency Services will oversee the portfolio of programs and related services specific to Emergency Services and intensive case management to adult homeless and chronically homeless clients referred by the Coordinated Access Network (CAN), collaborating healthcare and behavioral health providers and walk-in clients of the emergency shelters. The Director also evaluates the effectiveness of programs to provide ongoing feedback; provides mentoring, guidance, supervision, and professional development to his/her reporting managers; and enhances the structure of the organization by staying abreast of developments in the homeless assistance sector. The Director of Emergency Services will oversee a program portfolio that includes New Haven based shelter and outreach programs, Medical Respite, Recovery House and Seasonal Programs in New Haven and Hamden.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership, Staff Management and Organizational Strategy
1. In coordination with the Chief Program Officer, play a key role in the overall development, strategic planning, service delivery, and management of emergency services programs.
2. Deploy and monitor program budgets and resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, working with the managers to balance workload and effort, and provide regular feedback so that they can continuously improve their supervision and mentoring skills.
3. Create and support a high performing culture in the department aligned with core values. Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward vision and goal, by clearly communicating agency vision, implementing yearly staff development plans, and mentoring.
4. Establish annual departmental and manager goals and objectives and track results against these goals as well as accountability protocols.
5. Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility.
6. Represent Emergency service specific programs on relevant committees and task forces in house and outside of Columbus House.
7. Monitor emerging needs of key funders, clients, and employees.
Reports To: Chief Program Officer
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Salary Range: $72,000 - $82,000 based on education and experience; plus, excellent benefits package.
