    ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

    Associate Director of Communications

    Berkshire School seeks an Associate Director of Communications to join its Communications and Marketing team. The ideal candidate will be an engaging and enthusiastic storyteller, capable of delivering content in various formats (video, photography, writing) for use on multiple platforms. The Associate Director will work closely with faculty and staff and students to report on campus life and mission-appropriate stories covering academic and extracurricular activities and will thrive in a fast-paced and fun school environment as part of a team responsible for communicating the institution’s strategic priorities and enhancing the Berkshire School brand.

    This role is a 10-month position embedded within the community. It includes one season of coaching or supporting an afternoon program and serving residential life as a dorm parent. The position reports directly to the Director of Communications and Marketing.

    Responsibilities:

    • Identify compelling story ideas and create digital content that is informative, impactful, and celebrates the School’s success stories.
    • Photograph a range of events, people, and places in support of the school’s strategic messaging needs.
    • Select and edit photos for various platforms (e.g. social media, website, marketing, Admission materials, magazine) in keeping with Berkshire’s brand.
    • Produce short, same-day videos for social media.
    • Design basic graphics and visuals for electronic newsletters, events, marketing, etc.
    • Write and edit articles and correspondence for print and electronic communications.
    • Maintain and organize photo storage and galleries
    • Coordinate freelance photographers for supplemental event support.

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Proactive approach to assignments, with the ability to bring new ideas to the table, take initiative and follow through in a timely manner.
    • Photography skills and comfort in front of groups required.
    • Strong aesthetic awareness and keen eye for design.
    • Compelling storyteller and engaging interviewer, enthusiastic about talking with students and teachers.
    • Ability to multitask and produce high quality work on short and multiple deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students and adults.
    • A team player
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Excellent computer skills, fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Google Workspace, Canva, and content management systems.
    • Occasional lifting of any variety of items weighing up to 40 lbs, bending, and climbing stairs

    Frequently walking and standing around campus (both inside and outside) Flexible schedule to work some evenings and weekends for school events.

    Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2-5 years’ prior experience in independent schools or communications fields. Knowledge of independent school culture or experience working in an educational setting is preferred.
