Job Summary:

Assists in the coordination of timely and accurate shipping functions and documents.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Keeps all skids and cartons for scheduled shipment including labeling, skid or carton preparation, shipment record keeping, and transfer to carrier.
• Keeps the Lead Shipping Clerk informed of status and progress of work and of unusual problems.
• Checks the accuracy of all shipping documents. Traces lost or delayed shipments; initiates claim for loss or damage. Audits plant shipping invoices for accuracy of commodity classifications/rates.
• Gathers and maintains all data and records relative to shipping activities.
• Helps maintain shipping directories and guides.
• Ensures proper labels and tickets have been applied before shipping.
• Assists in resolving any discrepancies.
• Collects all documentation for inbound freight and routes to the proper record keeping unit.
• Directs and oversees pallet control and exchanges.
• Reports any problems, potential problems, hazardous situations that may exist or any other pertinent information that may help the department improve its efficiency and productivity.
• Reads Material Safety Data Sheets for proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
• Maintains good security habits at dock doors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lb.
