SUMMARY:
The Certified Peer Specialist (Peer Specialist) will provide behavioral health services that foster supportive peer relationships with clients in the various community support programs.Certified peer specialists are individuals who have had personal experience of mental illness and are trained to be direct service mental health staff. Applicants must have completed the DHS State approved training and be certified as a Peer Specialist.
DUTIES:
· To work effectively within the Community Support Program and other HDC Programs providing Peer Support to the clients of HDC.
· The PSS is an integral member of the team and assists in the development of a culture of recovery and peer support by engaging in and supporting person centered services.
· Have knowledge of, and be able to teach skills related to coping, relapse prevention, and basic household and living skills.
· Assessing needs and applying interventions appropriately.
· Be able to complete functional assessments and treatment plans, daily progress notes, and all other required paperwork.
· The PSS must be able to maintain appropriate boundaries in a variety of settings and situations, be able to establish a trusting relationship with peers, and have excellent interpersonal skills, and maintain an excellent working relationship with colleagues.
· The PSS must be detailed oriented with good writing and organizational abilities. Must be able to network within the community and work with diverse populations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be Certified by MN Department of Human Services as a Certified Peer Support Specialist by completing the State of MN Certified Peer Specialist Training.
· The applicant has identified self as a person who has direct personal experience living with a mental illness and/or chemical dependency.
· Must have valid driver's license, reliable transportation, current proof of vehicle registration and ability to pass DMV/Criminal background check.
