    If you have a passion for serving Veterans and a background in social work, consider becoming a Great Plains Veterans Services Center (GPVSC)  Veterans Support Services Manager. 

    The Great Plains Veterans Services Center (GPVSC) was established in 2015 and recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization in February of 2016. GPVSC is headquartered on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in North Central Montana. GPVSC established the Veterans Support Services (VSS) program in January 2017. The purpose of this program is to provide Veterans with access to all VA benefits they have earned; assist unemployed Veterans in becoming self-sufficient by transitioning them into the workforce; support homeless Veterans or at-risk for homeless Veterans in attaining and maintaining housing; provide mental health and suicide prevention support and provide case management to assist Veterans in overall quality of life needs. In 2020, GPVSC began operating its Veterans Transportation Services (VTS) program. This program provides transportation services to rural Montana Veterans for VA and VA-referred appointments.  

    JOB OVERVIEW

    At the direction of the GPVSC Executive Director, the Veterans Support Services Manager will administer the Veterans Support Services (VSS) program and provide supervision to program functions and staff in support of Veteran suicide prevention, community outreach, advocacy, planning resource development and daily support. The Veterans Support Services Manager will provide oversight of case management services and management of Case Managers to individual Veterans and family members. The Veterans Support Services Manager will work in a manner which supports the mission of the GPVSC, ensuring that daily operations, procedures, and standards are maintained in accordance with federal, tribal, and state laws and regulations.

    The position may be located in Box Elder, Ft. Belknap or Browning and may be a hybrid combination of in-person and virtual, remote work. Job duties include but are not limited to:

    ·         Direct the work of staff, establish work schedules, review, and approve timesheets.

    ·         Provide day-to-day program leadership, staff orientation, training, supervision, and performance appraisals.

    ·         Ensure accurate program documentation of clients and GPVSC contacts in accordance with program policy and ensure that procedure manuals are maintained.

    ·         Assist in programmatic and administrative review of cases for quality assurance.

    ·         Ensure systems are in place to provide effective outcome monitoring and continuous quality improvement in all program functions.

    ·         Work in collaboration with GPVSC administration to develop policies and procedures as well as establish and evaluate VSS program goals.

    ·         Provide VSS program and/or GPVSC representation at a variety of community meetings to foster relationships.

    ·         Advocate in assisting Veterans with coordinating access to and providing accurate information for medical care, compensation, pensions, home loans, education, burial benefits and all other VA programs and services.

    ·         Serve as the subject matter expert on applications, forms and guidelines Veterans will need to complete and follow to receive benefits and services.

    ·         Conduct home visits throughout the reservation and local communities.

    ·         Organize educational and informative workshops or seminars to provide information on benefits available to Veterans, families of Veterans, and service providers.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

    ·         Ability to direct remote staff.

    ·         Ability to maintain a calm and positive demeanor in the event of difficult interactions. Ability to display non-judgmental and empathetic listening skills.

    ·         Skill in establishing rapport and working to build and maintain effective working relationships with Veterans, staff, and community agency representatives.

    ·         Ability to perform job duties with integrity and innovation to ensure completion and a high level of quality.

    ·         Ability to understand and adhere to required administrative policies and procedures.

    ·         Skill in providing assistance to the public, coordinating activities, providing technical assistance, and working with various community agencies to coordinate services for clients.

    ·         Ability to quickly learn complex VA processes for benefits and enrollment, and federal, state, local, and tribal resources, particularly in the field of job services and employment resources.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    ·         Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related field (master’s in social work preferred); or

    ·         Five years of experience in social services case management or other directly related area, or

    ·         Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    ·         Must hold a Montana driver's license with no restriction or obtain one within 60-90 days.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORKING CONDITIONS

    ·         Must be able to work on a computer for up to 8 hours per day.

    ·         Frequent interactions with clients, community members and GPVSC staff.

    ·         Day travel is required to go to where the Veterans are.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    ·         Must hold a valid Montana driver's license and successfully complete a driver's history check.

    ·         Benefits include SEP retirement plan, paid time off and holidays, dental, vision, accident, short-term and long-term disability and life insurance. 

    ·         Health insurance is not covered.
