    Job Description

    Torch Technologies is seeking a dynamic individual to join its Corporate HR Team as an Employee Relations Specialist.  The role of the Employee Relations Specialist is to assist in the maintaining of positive relationships employee-owners and the business.  The specialist will spend the majority of the time focused on addressing employee problems, aiding in communication on company policies and procedures, and improving overall morale.  The specialist will also spend time working with employees on Performance Improvement Plans and development concerns, as well as analyzing data to find trends.

    Job Description:

    The Employee Relations Specialist will perform the following duties:

    • Act as point of contact for employee complaints, concerns, and grievances; intake information and determine next steps.
    • Manage documentation related to employee issues, including disciplinary and investigation files.
    • Conduct disciplinary meetings as needed with employees independently or in concert with the HR Director.
    • Conduct workplace investigations for harassment and discrimination claims (or others) as needed or in concert with the HR Director and/or Legal Counsel.
    • Manage the PIP (performance improvement plan) process with employees and their managers and maintain accurate records.
    • Facilitate discussions between two parties as necessary to resolve conflict and suggest solutions.
    • Provide counseling to employees who are experiencing stress or are having personal problems and refer employees to the company’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
    • Maintain the department policy and procedure library, including version control of documents and coordination with Quality.
    • Monitor employment law and take steps necessary to coordinate implementation of changes to company HR policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
    • Understand company guidelines, policies and procedures that may fall outside of HR in order to provide clear explanations and guidance to others as needed.
    • Assist in the enforcement of all company policies and procedures.
    • Assist HR personnel and managers with policy interpretation as needed.
    • Monitor trends and employee sentiment and offer advice and view on workplace issues and trends.
    • Respond to unemployment claims and represent company in unemployment hearings, when needed.
    • Ensure labor law posters are kept updated at all Torch facilities and communications go out to employees when needed.
    • May assist with or author employee communications on various topics.
    • May write content for compliance training and/or train others (e.g. HR personnel, managers, etc.) in employment law and policy topics.
    • Refer complex issues to HR Director.
    • Participate in staff meetings, company sponsored trainings and team meetings as directed.
    • Ensure confidentiality is maintained and that files/documents are secure at the end of each workday.
    • Maintain a positive working relationship with all areas of the business.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    To be successful in this role, you will be well-versed in the broad spectrum of Human Resources to include regulatory and compliance and have a talent for listening and counseling others.  You should have proven ability to keep information confidential and be able to work independently to protect sensitive information.

    Job Requirements

    Job Qualifications:

    Education:

    • BS Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other related field OR equivalent experience

    Experience:

    • 5 years’ related experience in Human Resources
    • Experience handling employee relations issues and able to give examples and talk to successful outcomes
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (particularly business email writing knowledge)
    • Good time-management skills with the ability to handle various issues at one time
    • Self-starter with strong initiative

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • HR Certification (SHRM or HRCI) strongly desired

    U.S. Citizenship Required for this Position: Yes
