    Job Description

    This role provides strategic and proactive employee relations (ER) advice, including specialist advice on the application and interpretation of employment law & legislation, employment contracts/awards and HR policies & procedures to ensure an aligned and effective approach across BlueScope North America (BNA). The role works collaboratively with BNA HR leaders and their teams to provide guidance on management processes including disputes and processes associated with disciplinary action, and effective consultation approaches to performance and change management, productivity and workforce initiatives that support the plans of BNA and the BlueScope businesses across North America.  This role reports to the VP People, BNA and is a member of the BlueScope North America (BNA) People Leadership Team.

    Key Focus Areas:

    Establishing an ER function for BNA that supports:

    • An ongoing positive culture where employee wellbeing, diversity, equity and inclusion are able to thrive.
    • An engaged and productive workforce
    • BNA being legally compliant in all people-related activities.
    • Leadership to effectively manage employee relations matters in their areas
    • Accessibility of information and advice to support good decision making for HR teams, leaders and employees.

    Scope of Accountability:

    • Develop and lead the implementation of ER strategy and activities, with a focus on strategy, governance, and improved ER processes.
    • Support the organisation on developing the policies, processes and approaches to operate effectively and drive efficiency.
    • Contribute as a senior member of the BNA People lead team and the global ER network.

    Qualifications

    • Tertiary qualification/s in a relevant field (eg HR, law)
    • Strong understanding of employment law, with extensive knowledge of the US labor laws applicable to the states/regions where BNA operates.
    • Experience in Human Resources and Industrial Relations in heavy industrial, multi-site (jurisdictional) environment.
    • Experience in industrial negotiations and case management of employee matters, including advocacy in relevant forums/courts.
    • Knowledge of best-practice and future trends in work, especially their implications for and potential applications to leadership, HR and workplace experience.
    • Able to collaborate with people at all levels in the organization.
    • Strong ability to communicate, negotiate and influence in writing and verbally.
