    Supervisor: Director of Human Resources & Organizational Development

    Summary: Using judgment and discretion, the Employee Relations Specialist interacts with employees and resolves issues regarding benefits, training, policies, events, orientation and other varied human resources duties. This position is the “front door” for HR including recruiting, workflow, and customers. The incumbent must establish and maintain a variety of important contacts with departmental employees, other agencies and the public.

    Duties/Responsibilities
    • Handles recruiting for the department. Posts open vacancies to applicant tracking system, corresponds with applicants, schedules interviews, makes travel arrangements, and attends job fairs.
    • Oversees the LinkedIn account for the division, including the department-wide LinkedIn Learning platform.
    • Conducts orientation for new hires both in-person and virtual. Assists the Benefits Coordinator with onboarding tasks as needed.
    • Interacts effectively with other divisions in the department and with other state agencies including the Department of Human Resources, Treasury, and General Services.
    • Maintains and directs job and position data flow between HR and the Fiscal Division. Keys personnel transactions, performs quality control, and runs reports in Edison.
    • Submits purchase requests and tracks invoices for the division. Is responsible for the state payment card for the division and reconciles transactions monthly.
    • Assists the Human Resources Director with trainings and department-wide events. This includes reserving meeting rooms, event setup, and execution.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education and Experience
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. A degree in Human Resources or other related field of study is desirable and will be given preference.
    Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Ability to communicate information in a professional manner both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of leaders, employees, and customers.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work and communications.
    • Ability to develop and maintain extensive interpersonal contacts.
    • Demonstrated ability to respond flexibly and reprioritize work as situations change.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Access, MS Visio, and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Experience using the state’s Edison system.
    • Ability to work well under pressure.
    • Ability to produce work with few, if any, errors.
    • Ability to apply technology to solve issues.
    • Ability to organize time effectively to manage a variety of projects successfully.
    Physical Requirements
    • Good hearing, vision and manual dexterity.

    • Follow instructions given for health and safety purposes and immediately report any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions.

    Salary: $45,000 plus the State of Tennessee’s benefits package.
