Director, Employee Relations and Development

  • The Director of Employee Relations & Development oversees Catalyst’s employee relations programs, policies, and procedures, as well as various employee development programs such as Onboarding, Performance Management, and Training. The position will monitor the status of statewide investigations and employee relations trends and oversee employee development programs and processes.


    Essential Job Functions:

    Employee Relations:

    • Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of best practices for responding to employee relations concerns and investigations, and monitors teams' open and closed cases for consistency in executing best practices.
    • Oversee the HR functions for Onboarding and Offboarding for Catalyst Family Inc.
    • Collaborate with the HR team to develop and implement proactive employee relations programs and processes that ensure adequate and robust documentation techniques are used and maintain accurate, confidential records regarding all reported matters and fact-finding documentation.
    • Communicate and enforce company policies and Employee Handbook on an ongoing basis.
    • Work with ER Team to identify and analyze employee matters and recommend appropriate employment action to maintain a productive work environment, achieve optimal performance, and minimize risk to the company.
    • Works with team to monitor the overall organizational climate and employee morale and communicates observations regularly to Senior and Executive Leadership regarding employee concerns.
    • Analyze trends and patterns through Employee Relations Case Management System, survey results and climate and culture assessments, and other resources to identify opportunities for additional Leadership Coaching or Training.
    • Reports on employee relations and engagement trends regularly with Senior Leadership.
    • Support internal investigations and partners/consults with the Deputy Director of HR and Director of HR Compliance regarding high-level investigations, as applicable, to ensure legal risk is assessed.
    • In partnership with HR Colleagues, develops training content on employment practices and delivers content as a subject matter expert.

    Training and Development

    • Provides leadership coaching, support, and development to all levels of management.
    • Oversees a catalog of offerings, including onboarding, leadership training and development, etc., utilizing various delivery platforms that align with the business’s operations.
    • Leads conflict resolution training to train managers to work with their teams to promote a great work experience.
    • Mentors leadership on implementing effective employee recognition practices that drive workplace engagement, connection, and retention.

    Talent Program Management

    • In partnership with business leaders, assesses and builds leadership depth and capability by collaborating with key stakeholders to assess, develop and execute the learning and development programs that strengthen the skill base of existing and future leaders, enhancing Catalyst’s talent pipeline.

    Performance Management

    • Works directly with all levels of leadership to ensure performance management and development are reviewed, and the necessary tools and practices are in place to regularly monitor performance.
    • Participates in developing performance standards and measures for job groups to support statewide performance management initiatives.

    Other HR Responsibilities

    • Leads, develops, and mentors a team of HR professionals to meet performance standards.
    • Collaborates with various stakeholders to develop detailed implementation plans in line with and in support of the overall company HR strategies.
    • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with all levels across the organization.
    • Leads specific HR projects on a statewide level and/or participates as a member of a team as an HR Representative.
    • Other duties/projects as assigned.
    • Travel 30-40% to various worksites as needed - Including two visits per year to meet with direct reports on-site at various locations.

    Education and Experience:

    Education

    The MINIMUM formal relevant education required by the position.

    • Bachelor’s degree in HR management, business, social sciences, or related field.
    • Desirable:
      • Master’s Degree
      • Certification in Human Resources, PHR, or SPHR.

    Experience

    The MINIMUM relevant experience is necessary to qualify for the position.

    • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in human resources at the professional/management level, preferably from multi-industry and sizeable organizations.
    • Minimum five years managing staff.

    Other Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of the complete life cycle of HR talent-focused practices, including onboarding, performance management, rewards and recognition, employee engagement, training and development, coaching and feedback, and voluntary/involuntary transition out of the organization.
    • Experience designing, developing, and delivering instructor-led training for both management and non-management staff.
    • Strong attention to detail in documentation of employee relations issues.
    • Strong business acumen with experience working in the business at the executive level.
    • Demonstrated operational and process rigor, familiarity and comfort with HR-related technology and tools/case management software.
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
    • General knowledge of both Federal and State Employment Law.
    • Strong knowledge of investigative processes and procedural understanding.
    • Effective interpersonal, influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills and an effective coach for managers and employees.
    • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
    • Experience in managing and leading a team. Management of multi-site programs is desirable.
    • Ability to translate strategies into tactical actions, solutions, and effective implementation plans.
    • High energy, enthusiasm, and commitment towards the mission, goals, and values of Catalyst Family Inc. and the HR department.
    • Creativity, innovation, and ability to think out-of-the-box in problem-solving, organizational diagnosis and solution generation.
    • High level of independence while working effectively as part of the business team and HR team.
    • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.

    Shift Type: Full-Time Exempt, Hybrid

    Compensation: $97,957 - $146,936 annually
