    Job Summary


    Manage and coordinate the operations of a unit or initiative of the university.

    Responsibilities


    Typical Allocation of Duties for All Managers

    Supervision of personnel - 30%
    Supervise personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.

    Manage and participate - 15%
    Manage and participate in the daily operations of an assigned unit.

    Implementation - 15%
    Develop or assist with the implementation of policies and procedures, systems, and processes.

    Researches new trends and developments - 15%
    Research new trends and developments; presents recommendations as required.

    Participate in planning and goal setting - 10%
    Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of short-and long-range plans and goals.

    Develop and implement projects and programs - 10%
    Develop and implement projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.

    Department representative - 5%
    Represent the department at various meetings, and committees; promote existing and new programs and/or policies.


    Supervisor Expectations for the Employee Relations Manager

    Supervision
    • Manage the activities of Employee Relations.
    • Manage/supervise personnel effectively.
    • Ensure appropriate staffing levels.

    Employee Relations
    • Work closely with employees to provide strategies and tools that will help them become or remain successful and effectively handle employee relation issues.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with managers and employees to stay abreast of current and future employee relations issues to help prevent potential employee relation problems.
    • Advise management on disciplinary actions, performance problems, productivity, and other issues to resolve disputes.
    • Lead employee relations initiatives.

    Performance Management
    • Manage the University's performance management system.
    • Respond to questions regarding performance management as needed.
    • Research new best practices and implement as required.

    Investigations
    • Serve as the lead investigator and investigate employee relations concerns.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Establish document storage procedures for all documents related to investigations.

    Data Analytics and Assessments
    • Measure the impact of Employee Relations and provide an action plan for improvements.
    • Benchmark the current employee relation issues rates and implement new processes to support our efforts.

    Provide oversight of other HR related tasks
    • Drug testing
    • Unemployment
    • Compliance
    • Deputy Title IX responsibilities
    • Rewards and Recognition Programs

    Training
    • Serve as a backup trainer for Employee and Organizational Development.
    • Conduct training as needed within the nature and scope of functional area.

    Required Qualifications


    Required Experience
    Bachelor's degree in a specified field and three (3) years of related work experience. Professional licensure, certification, and/or designation may be required in some areas.
