    Job Characteristics:

    Provides routine legal services of a varied nature which are typically characterized by facts that are well-established, involve established legal precedents and have a relatively moderate impact, and perform other duties as required. May coordinate the work of other attorney and non-attorney staff. This position is jointly funded by the Kentucky Prosecutor’s Advisory Council and the Henderson County Attorney’s Office. Health insurance would be provided by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the position would participate in both the Kentucky Employees Retirement System (KERS) and the County Employees Retirement System (CERS).

    Minimum Requirements

    • Education: Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or have the ability to obtain admission via SCR 2.111 (Limited Certificate of Admission), SCR 2.112 (Limited Admission for County Attorney Offices), SCR 2.116 (Supervised Practice), and/or SCR 2.117 (Practice Pending Admission). Must maintain any required licensures, certifications, or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.
    • Experience, Training or Skills: Experience handling criminal law cases is preferred, but not required. Applicable prosecutorial training is available and required after date of hire. The applicant shall have, at minimum, the following competencies: self-motivation, problem solving, multi-tasking, time management, professionalism, integrity, detail-oriented, superior communication, teamwork, attendance/punctuality, listening, computer proficiency, ability to learn and adapt to new concepts/programs in a timely fashion.
    • Other: Must be able to pass criminal background check. All hires are subject to approval by the Kentucky Prosecutors Advisory Council.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    • At all times maintain a commitment to the highest standard of legal ethics and a commitment to justice.
    • Represent the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the prosecution of misdemeanors and other matters in Henderson District Court.
    • Confer with victims of crime in compliance with Marsy's Law.
    • Oversee cases in various phases of district court litigation. Perform legal research, prepare motions and briefs.
    • Prepare and argue cases from arraignment through trial.
    • Carry out negotiations with defense counsel and pro-se defendants.
    • May work as a member of an inter-disciplinary team, and may coordinate the efforts of non-attorney staff.
    • Research, provide input, and participate in drafting of ordinances, contracts, leases, or other aspects of the office’s legal representation of Henderson County government and its constituent agencies.
    • Attend court, applicable training sessions, and meetings in a timely manner. Remain updated on changes to applicable case law, statutes, and ordinances.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Comply with Kentucky and Henderson County Attorney’s Office Personnel Policies and Procedures.

    Typical Working Conditions

    Duties are primarily performed in both office and courtroom settings. Travel is required for applicable yearly training events.
