The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
The Employment Law Attorney, ("Attorney") will work within our Administration Department and provide legal guidance on various matters related to Labor & Employment Law and Human Resources, as well as support the Department as needed.
Duties and responsibilities
Attorney will report to the Vice President, Administration, and will be responsible for providing advice to the Human Resources team lead, as well as other staff as required, in all areas of Labor & Employment Law, policy, HR compliance, development, implementation of policies and procedures, and training of staff.
Additionally, the Attorney will be responsible for supporting, along with VP and HR Team, taking newly-hired employees through the onboarding process, including all required paperwork; preparing, explaining, and handling along with the employee, all health insurance paperwork and addressing any questions in that regard; and managing the off-boarding procedures when an employee resigns or is terminated from the Foundation, including preparing all necessary paperwork, a Separation Agreement, providing COBRA information for temporary continuation of health benefits, and handling of Unemployment paperwork (when applicable).
The Attorney should have a strong knowledge of Labor & Employment Law and an understanding of the non-profit sector. The Attorney will: draft and review documents and contracts, including employment offer letter and Separation Agreement templates, among others; work collaboratively with the team to address organization-wide legal needs; engage relationships with outside counsel; and assist in ensuring compliance of laws and regulations (federal and all states, where applicable), including implementation of any and all necessary and required courses, drills, paperwork, etc.
The Attorney must possess the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and contribute to the positive working environment of the Foundation. The candidate will have excellent communication and writing skills, high ethical standards, be able to multitask and manage concurrent projects, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be able to interact within different levels of the organization and external organizations.
