Endoscopy Technician performs various direct patient care activities in the endoscopy unit under the supervision of a physician. Ensures that all equipment is functioning properly. Being an Endoscopy Technician may assist with medical procedures. Typically requires an associate degree. Additionally, Endoscopy Technician typically reports to a supervisor or manager. GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Assist nurse and physician with patient care in all aspects of endoscopy procedure.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports directly to Endoscopy Center Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Scope reprocessing
2. Assist physician with procedure.
3. Assist nurse with post procedure (recovery).
4. May occasionally be required to give recommendations, advice or guidance to others.
5. May occasionally review the completeness and accuracy of the work of others.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED. Prefer SGNA Gastroenterology Specialist training (technical).
EXPERIENCE:
Assist physicians with procedures (endoscopy and colonoscopy) and collect biopsies.
On the job training provided.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be knowledgeable in the use of endoscopes and supporting equipment. Must be able to work somewhat independently.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal Endoscopy Center environment. Exposure to disinfectants and formaldehyde. Exposure to communicable diseases.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Requires frequent standing, walking and minimal lifting up to 25 pounds.
