JOB DESCRIPTION: GI / PROCEDURE ROOM TECHNICIAN
POSITION SUMMARY
The GI/procedure room technician is responsible for equipment set-up and appropriate supplies in the procedure room. This person also assists the physician during the procedure and may assist the procedure room RN, as well
ACCOUNTABILITY TO: Director of Nursing
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Graduate
Current BLS certification
Ability to lift 25 pounds and push and pull patients as required
Required: 1 year recent GI / endoscopy technician experience
Preferred: SGNA endoscopy technician certification
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Prepares equipment for upcoming procedure, including physician requested and patient supplies
Maintains a clean and orderly work area
Able to reprocess endoscopes and replace instrument processing technician as needed
Conforms to center policies and procedures regarding universal precautions
Operates endoscopy equipment, troubleshooting as required
Assists procedure room nurse and physician with patient positioning
Assists with maintenance of procedure room inventory, including communication with team members regarding supply needs
Performs procedure room cleaning prior to start of cases, in between cases, and terminal cleans at the end of the procedure day
Aware of potential exposure to hazards: chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, etc
Assists physician with procedure: may include (but is not limited to): o Change in equipment parts o Retrieval of biological specimens o Change in patient position o Movement of patient body parts o Movement of equipment o Troubleshooting of equipment
Works with procedure room nurse to ensure specimen log is complete and accurate
May assist procedure room RN with duties as required (within scope of practice)
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
May assist with transfer for patients to and from other areas in the center via gurney and/or wheelchair
Understands appropriate handling of contaminated and hazardous waste
