As Director of Sustainability – Energy Engineering youwill oversee energy engineering functions for Burlington stores, distribution centers, and corporate facilities including prioritization and strategic alignment of energy efficiency and demand reduction projects, management of EMS and energy impact data analysis, renewable energy initiatives, store new construction prototype MEP review and individual store design reviews, DC and corporate facility engineering and energy management support. In this role you will directly contribute to annual carbon footprint measurement and reduction efforts.
Your work is composed of two main initiatives:
Energy Engineering Program Management
Oversee Energy Engineering team project workload prioritization and ongoing tasks responsibilities. Ensure projects are delivered on time and meeting all expectations. Drive team to prioritize projects based on budgetary impact and thermal comfort needs.
Manage capital and expense projects for successful implementation and compile energy savings and PIC validation of savings.
Lead pursuit of new opportunities to improve energy efficiency through existing and potential vendors, technologies, and innovation in operations. Identify, research, test, and implement new energy efficiency and demand limiting technologies.
Serve as in-house “expert” on energy engineering matters (MEP design, HVAC, lighting, and EMS controls) when reviewing cost estimates, product specifications, construction documents, building control systems, and renewable energy opportunities for new and existing facilities.
New Store Prototype MEP, HVAC and EMS Controls Leadership:
Oversee effort to continuously value engineer and optimize energy using equipment (mechanical, electrical and EMS controls) and design within the new store prototypes.
Utilize dynamic energy modeling of new store prototype to test and validate new energy using technologies and operational strategies for incorporation into the prototype design.
Lead team in charge of reviewing mechanical, electrical and EMS controls portions of all new stores, downsize, and remodel construction documents in alignment with prototypes.
Oversee continuous efficiency and operating comfort improvements in new store design prototypes- construction drawings and specifications of energy using equipment.
To be successful in this role you might possess…
Master’s Degree in mechanical, electrical, energy engineering or related field; plus, a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.Master’s degree may be substituted for additional years of experience leading an energy engineering team.
Licenses/Certification/Registration: CEM, PE or AEE required; LEED AP BD C or O M preferred.
Experience: 10 years’ experience,with increasing responsibility, energy expense budgets, and directly managing commercial energy management or engineering programs, equipment, and energy control systems- preferably in retail or multi-site applications.
Extensive understanding of building HVAC, controls, and electrical systems. Knowledge of energy efficiency, utility rebate and incentive programs. Knowledge of the design, installation and maintenance of common energy using technologies in commercial buildings. Basic knowledge of renewable energy technologies and deal structures. Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams to successful results. Experience managing direct reports.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong preference given to candidates with a proven history of successfully implementing large, multisite demand/usage reduction programs in a retail environment resulting in substantial energy savings
Knowledge of retail lighting and of package/ rooftop, split, built-up and chiller HVAC systems and their controls
Prior experience implementing and monitoring EMS (Energy Management Systems) in a retail or multi-site environment
Knowledge of EMS controls software (such as BACnet, Siemens, Honeywell Opus) platforms and data
