The Duluth Transit Authority is hiring a Dispatcher to work in a fast paced, customer service focused position serving our fixed route and paratransit departments. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position in an office setting. You will need to be available 7 days a week, but your schedule will be set after a training period of several weeks. 8 and 10 hour shifts are available.
Paratransit dispatch duties include: Answering phone calls and taking ride requests, scheduling paratransit drivers to their work daily, answering questions and providing information to all drivers regarding bus operations and schedule changes, monitoring the vehicle fleet by use of a computerized dispatch radio system to communicate with vehicle operators for any conditions which would impact operations, reviewing Dispatch Daily Report of Operations, working with the maintenance department staff to insure proper bus assignments and solve on street bus maintenance problems, maintainin daily computerized records of bus schedule and changes by inputting data on an ongoing basis into the dispatch computer, printing necessary reports as needed or requested, performing clerical functions of data collection, absenteeism, vacations, completion of various forms, special requests, data entry on computer, etc.
Fixed Route dispatch duties include: Assuring all scheduled bus routes are assigned and completed, completing, reviewing and printing a variety of daily paperwork and computerized reports, providing information to all bus operators regarding bus operations, monitoring and supervising the vehicle fleet by use of a computerized dispatch radio system to communicate with vehicle operators for any conditions which would impact operations, responding to questions and operational problems from bus operators, adjusting daily run list and calling for replacement operators, working with the Maintenance Department to insure proper bus assignments and solve on street bus maintenance problem, performing clerical functions for the Transportation Department consisting of data collection, absenteeism, vacations, completion of various forms, special requests, posting of operational information on the bulletin board, data entry on computer, etc, assisting the Telephone Information Operators in answering customer information phone calls, providing rider information, monitoring the dispatch area and operators lounge to assure business like conduct.
This is not a work-from-home position. The majority of this position involves being on the phone or talking to people during your entire shift. Regular, dependable attendance is critical for success in the dispatcher role. The Duluth Transit Authority reserves the right to assign additional or different duties to employees within this job classification consistent with the changing needs of the Duluth Transit Authority.
In addition to the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have experience in a transit, paratransit or dispatch setting. Strong computer skills and experience, and the willing to learn new programs, is required. Flexibility with your schedule is also required in this position.
