Energy Manager monitors the organization's energy usage. Develops and implements practices and procedures designed to reduce energy consumption and/or improve efficiency of usage. Being an Energy Manager prepares annual budgets associated with conservation programs. May research alternative/renewable energy technologies and determine their feasibility and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, Energy Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Energy Manager work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Work Location & Travel

    The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. This position will be on-site Monday through Friday and may need to be available outside of normal business hours, in order to respond to emergencies and other business needs. Periodic travel may be required (<10%).      

     
    Primary Responsibilities
    • Develop and maintain company environmental, health and safety processes, procedures, and policies.
    • Identify needed policy and procedure changes in conjunction with management to ensure continuous safety improvement.
    • Develop and implement hazard assessment policies and procedures. This includes evaluating leading indicators (audits and inspections) and lagging indicators (accidents and near misses) to determine preventative and/or corrective action options.
    • Directs emergency response activities and coordinates facility security activities.
    • Assist managers and supervisors in the review of accidents and near miss events to identify root causes and determine the appropriate corrective and preventative action options.
    • Review, identify, develop, and deliver EH&S related training programs. Skilled in the use of various training delivery methodologies (e.g., classroom, computer-based training etc.)
    • Evaluate and implement effective EH&S cultural improvement and engagement activities.
    • Regularly conduct inspections/audits/peer reviews. Discuss positive observations and areas for improvement.
    • Engaged in capital projects to help ensure design meets EH&S standards and project safety plans are developed and executed.
    • Implement and maintain processes for OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal standards.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
     
    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
    • Extensive background with environmental, health and safety body of knowledge
    • OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) experience
    • Knowledge of associated hazards and mitigations with hydrogen generation, storage, and use
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize execution.
    • Strong project management skills
     
    Education and Experience
    • B.S. (Chemistry, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, or Health and Safety related)
    • 10 years of relevant experience as a safety professional in process industry and/or R&D facilities
    • Experience leading a team preferred
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation
