  • Job Description Summary

    Reports directly to the Senior Operations Manager and is responsible for leading the assigned areas by meeting and/or exceeding all business growth and customer services requirements to ensure reliability and consistency on the production line. In close partnership with safety, quality and technical teams, you will provide strategic focus and leadership for the department, processes and equipment. You will be responsible for meeting short-term and long-term production goals while maintaining a safe and compliant workplace. You will foster a culture of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Responsible for operational performance and improvement of key metrics including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale. Align area metrics with overall department/value stream goals; organize resources to deliver on these metrics
    • Oversee the daily start-up of production area. Ensure line is properly staffed and manage staffing throughout the day; monitor expected and unexpected absenteeism. Review daily plan with Team Leaders.
    • Ensure production line boards are completed in a timely manner. Utilize production line boards to collect information on area performance, issue identification and problem resolution. Ensure information is passed on to the following shift and management
    • Manage the department's safety action item list, including corrective actions from near misses, accident reports & ergo assessments
    • Follows and enforces all EHS rules and regulations, including conducting weekly safety meetings, ensuring employee safety and 5S in housekeeping.
    • Active in EHS programs, promote an accident –free workplace, H&S framework element ownership, active safety team member.
    • Approve time off, determine overtime / absenteeism coverage needs and schedule personnel accordingly.
    • Ensure that equipment and personnel conform to ISO 9001
    • Work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders to address and solve production line quality issues (i.e. Team Leader, engineering, quality)
    • Monitor scrap data/reports to drive resolution of scrap issues and work projects to prevent future scrap
    • Partner with Plant Quality and Engineering staff to drive improvements in First Pass Yield
    • Work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders to address and solve production line quality issues (i.e. Team Leader, engineering, quality)
    • Lead team to proactively reduce factory inefficiencies. Drive problem-solving and root cause identification of problems for the production area. Engage all members of the escalation team to address and resolve problems, ex. SME, quality, facilities engineer, etc.
    • Collaborate cross functionally with multiple departments to drive efficiencies in material flow and inventory/WIP reduction

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
    • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, supplier management, and project implementation
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience with Lean Manufacturing tools (5S, 8D, Kaizen events, Six Sigma tools, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow, Process Auditing, Process Capability analysis, ISO, Poke Yoke). Application of Lean and Six Sigma techniques, statistical methods.

    Desired Characteristics

    • Strong computer skills including at minimum intermediate level Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP helpful.
    • Strong Quality, Industrial and/or Manufacturing Engineering background with mechanical aptitude.
    • Ability to lead and interact with others in a collaborative environment.
    • Proven track record of continuous improvement in manufacturing operation (assembly operations preferred)
    • Inclusive leadership style, proven ability to build a connection with the team through personal involvement and trust. Ability to successfully motivate and maintain high morale, employee involvement, safety and teamwork.
    • Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate well with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems showing results-driven methodology
    • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
    • Support 24/7 manufacturing facilities. Occasional off-shift, on call and weekend work may be required
    • Familiarity with OHSA General Industry; Strong Quality background – working knowledge of ISO, FDA standards; Experience with Lean Manufacturing Tools – 5S, 8D, kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow, Process Auditing, Process Capability Analysis, Poke Yoke design; Application Six Sigma techniques and statistical methods; Mechanical Aptitude highly desired
