    The business and community development manager is responsible for working directly with new and existing businesses' CEO, president and other company leadership as they evaluate growth and expansion opportunities to assist MidAmerican Energy in meeting financial performance and customer service objectives. The manager serves as a skilled resource to local, regional and state, economic development organizations, CEO's and corporate leaders, global site selectors and communities by assisting with developing responses, contractual agreements, data management and financial options. The manager is also the liaison with businesses' owners and leadership teams and community leaders, both elected and appointed, to assist with community relations, various projects, strategic plans, utility service, public relations and reputation management issues. The manager is responsible for resolving issues by creating the appropriate internal team of resources to positively impact MidAmerican's customer satisfaction. The position contributes directly to the corporate goal of achieving a high level of customer satisfaction.

    Typical Duties

    Work directly with new and existing businesses to provide strategic assistance as they evaluate growth and expansion opportunities within MidAmerican's service territory. These contacts include businesses' CEO, president or corporate leaders, global site selectors, mayors, city council and city officials, local, regional and state economic development professionals. Develop and lead the internal team and serve as the primary point of contact for all negotiations, contractual agreements, energy efficiency programs, infrastructure needs and rates and tariff interpretation to support MidAmerican's financial and customer satisfaction goals. (30%)

    Work directly with local, regional and state external economic development partners to develop local economic development programs to assist prospective and existing businesses interested in locating or expanding in the area. Serve as a resource and facilitator in the areas of developing and analyzing the effectiveness of marketing plans, strategic planning efforts, leadership training efforts, site/building data adequacy, speculative building development or marketing, economic modeling, special projects and availability of financial incentive options. (25%)

    Lead teams to carry out strategies for providing exceptional customer service. Provide strategic assistance to business, community, regional and state leaders and elected officials regarding utility regulations and company programs, policies and procedures. Develop and maintain relationships, both internally and externally to effectively manage all issues impacting the company's reputation, image and customer satisfaction goals. This leadership is critical and the ability to perform effectively may affect franchises, local and state political activities, company financials and economic growth. (25%)

    Support the development, implementation and administration of the company's economic development programs available to support external economic development groups and communities. Programs and activities include, but not limited to, MidAmerican's Local Partners Program, ACT!, LocationOne Information System, EMSI, Synchronist®, website, social media and Commercial Office Retail Enhancement. (15%)

    Provide expertise on business and community development to internal departments including regulatory and governmental affairs, legal, engineering, and delivery regarding how business decisions might impact communities or new and existing customers. (3%)

    Support franchise renewal activity and special projects as assigned. (2%)

    Qualifications


    Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, public administration, economic development, marketing, community planning, engineering or a related field or certification in economic development or equivalent work experience. (Typically eight years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

    Three years of related experience in economic development or the utility industry.

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Effective interpersonal skills and influencing abilities.

    Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

    Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently using effective project management skills.

    Ability to work effectively with large amounts of data and interpret the data correctly and find trends, patterns and relationships.

    Support the company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.

    Requires extensive travel within MidAmerican's service territory, frequently outside of regular work hours; valid driver's license required at all times.
