TITLE: Gift Shop Manager (Ocean Star Museum, Galveston TX)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
Position Summary: As the Gift Shop Manager, you play a pivotal role as a representative of the Energy Education Foundation at the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, actively contributing to the organization's mission by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the museum's gift shop.
Key Responsibilities:
Gift Shop Operations:
· Manage all aspects of gift shop operations, including selection, ordering, purchasing, and tracking of retail merchandise aligned with the museum's mission.
· Assists customers, handles complaints, assists staff members, and ensures all staff adhere to company standards and procedures.
· Attend retail markets to curate unique items for sale, maintain detailed records, and ensure optimal inventory levels.
· Process online, phone, and email orders, handling packaging, shipping, and payment processing efficiently.
· Performs cash handling duties, including counting tills, handling cash deposits, and performing opening and closing duties.
Visual Merchandising and Sales:
· Maintain the aesthetic appeal of the gift shop through strategic display arrangements to enhance customer engagement and maximize sales.
· Implement effective signage to connect merchandise with relevant museum exhibits, enhancing visitor experience.
Product Development and Reporting:
· Propose custom products in line with organizational branding for retail approval.
· Conduct thorough physical inventory counts biannually and provide detailed reports to the Accounting Department.
· Prepare quarterly reports for the Executive Director, offering insights into gift shop performance and opportunities for improvement.
Web Management and Representation:
· Update the museum and gift shop sections of the organization's website, ensuring accuracy and relevance by adding new items and informative content.
· Represent the Energy Education Foundation at events, including professional conferences and retail buying markets, as needed.
Requirements:
Education and Skills:
· Preferred college degree, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
· Strong organizational and bookkeeping skills, with proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel spreadsheets.
· Ability to work independently on long-term projects while delivering exceptional customer service and recognizing sales trends.
Experience:
· Minimum three years of retail or sales experience, with a background in product development preferred.
· Familiarity with the oil and gas industry and a strong foundation in customer service or hospitality.
· Proven track record of driving retail sales and sourcing unique merchandise to enhance the gift shop's offerings.
· Inventory control and management experience preferred.
Hours and Compensation:
· Full-time salaried, exempt position with benefits, including insurance coverage, retirement contributions, and paid holidays and vacation.
· Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
