POSITION: ENGINEERING AIDE – MAPPING/STAKING
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Holston Electric Cooperative Engineering Aide will work within the mapping system to ensure an accurate, up-to-date map is available to our engineering, service, and line departments. The position will also aid current/new customers with an emphasis on engineering services and coordination with other internal departments or outside agencies to help better serve the customers’ needs. Requirements will also include assisting with engineering studies, joint use records, system maintenance administration, and other engineering duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Drawing and staking jobs, setting up service locations in CIS software, creating work orders/service orders, scheduling appointments, etc.
· Acquire knowledge and application experience of field engineering, surveying, and construction practices.
· Assist engineering department with management of system maintenance scheduling.
· Obtain proficiency in software to perform engineering duties (CIS, mapping, ACAD, etc.)
· Work with NJUNS software monitoring attachment status.
· Develop ability to function as a GIS mapper/administrator
· Execute queries in GIS system as needed.
· Support Electric Engineers in carrying out system studies.
· Acquire knowledge in applying the NEC, NESC code book
· Gain understanding of transformers, reclosers, regulators, capacitors, etc.
· Acquire working knowledge of fault current, short circuit calculations, and load analysis.
· Develop ability to understand basic engineering calculations relating to voltage and current.
· Coordinate locates with TN One Call.
· Assist with storm restoration as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Two-year degree in engineering technology, surveying, drafting, or related technical field preferred.
· Experience with GIS, ESRI, CAD, or database software preferred.
SKILLS:
· Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions.
· Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
· Must demonstrate initiative and attention to detail
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
· Contribute to a team work environment
WORK CONDITIONS:
· Visual acuity and manual dexterity to enter data required.
· Occasional exposure to inclement weather may occur.
· Position requires frequent working outdoors in all types of weather and terrain.
· Must be able to stand for long periods on varied surfaces.
· Frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, stoops, squats, and lifts moderately heavy objects.
OFFICE HOURS:
· Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, but may vary for this position.
· May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including work after normal business hours in outage events.
· On-call availability for maintenance and outage issues necessitated.
RATE OF PAY:
· Commensurate with experience.
