Engineering Director plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Being an Engineering Director utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Additionally, Engineering Director manages overall engineering budget and costs. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to top management. The Engineering Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Engineering Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     ZAP is a full-service engineering, design, and construction management firm servicing the oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing sectors. From our Lakewood, Colorado office, we execute projects across North America, spanning from California to Florida and Canada down to Mexico.     About your role:

    This is a hands-on, full-time position with day-to-day duties, including working directly for the Vice President of Construction and with the Site Safety Manager to lead the development and implementation of safety management systems, company safety policies, and relevant occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) standards that support the overall safety strategy for all ZAP Engineering.

     

    Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

    • Oversees the development and implementation of ZAP divisional and corporate safety strategy across multiple locations.
    • Provides employees with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment; Establishes and promotes a healthy and safe work environment across all ZAP job sites and company.
    • Develops and implements workplace safety policies and procedures per OSHA standards, emphasizing accountability around safety policies and decisions.
    • Performs safety audits and physically inspects all work areas and job sites to identify possible safety issues.
    • Prepares monthly and annual safety reports and ensures accurate and timely record keeping and document management that aligns with federal and state compliance requirements.
    • Participates in industry and professional interest groups to stay current on best practices; Interfaces with regulatory and public sector agencies as appropriate.
    • Assists with other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Education and Certification Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED and some college course work required.
    • Associate or bachelor’s degree, or trade/technical school preferred.
    • HSE Certification and Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification are required.

    Experience Needed to be Successful

    • 10 years’ experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education required.
    • 10 years of supervisory/management experience required.

    • Work requires rich communication, frequent interaction, and reciprocal handoffs.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as other software required to execute daily tasks.
    • Ability to independently make decisions and direct work for projects and daily workflow.

    Supervisory Expectations:

    • The position supervises or manages the work of at least two full-time employees or the equivalent. The position includes decisions or recommendations regarding personnel actions such as hiring, disciplinary action, overtime, changes in pay, and terminations.

    • Results are defined; the incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow. Although precedents may exist, the supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.

    • The work environment is the typical office and construction environment. The employee must complete their work satisfactorily in an environment with significant distractions, including staff, clients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others. Must be able to drive to sites or meetings with clients. Must be able to perform activities requiring use of arms and legs, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, lifting and handling materials, walking, balancing, and stooping.
    • Ability to perform various safety functions on-site, including managing and administering safety orientations, overseeing substance abuse programs and investigating and reporting injuries, illnesses, and near misses.

    Work Hours:

    Company Hours

    8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

    40-Hour Work Week

    Monday through Friday, hours may vary with the workload.

    Evenings/Weekends/OT

    As needed to satisfy the requirements of the position.
