Engineering Director plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Being an Engineering Director utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Additionally, Engineering Director manages overall engineering budget and costs. Summary: Lead and Direct the Global Engineering functions of the Extruded Products Division. Directs Product, Applications Engineers and Chemists to support existing and new product designs to ensure a manufacturable product can be produced that meets customer design requirements and specifications at the lowest cost possible and within program timelines. Ensures customer materials approvals are obtained and design and validation testing meets or exceeds all requirements in time to support budgeted revenue. Works directly with Product Engineers, Applications Engineers and PKOH manufacturing plants to meet requirements while ensuring internal design guidelines are met. Supports and presents at customer Tech Reviews. Professionally manages all department personnel.
Essential Tasks (Responsibilities):
* Properly manages Extruded Products Product & Applications Engineers and Chemists globally to meet all stakeholder requirements.
* Leads Product Development to successfully meet five year budgeted revenue plan. Leads group to obtain customer material approvals and successful passing of all validation testing requirements in time to ultimately support on time PPAP submissions. Maintains and reviews Project Tracking with Extrusion Leadership.
* Ensures existing and new product meets customer material and design specifications and requirements to eliminate field product reliability issues.
* Ensures new and revised product is manufacturable to the lowest cost possible, can meet all specifications and requirements and program timing can be met without incurring additional, non-standard costs.
* Reduces cost through Value Driver process.
* Works well with Manufacturing to mitigate negative design features or requirements and ensuring the part can be produced at or below the quoted cost.
* Properly leads and manages all department personnel through annual objectives & performance appraisals, mentoring and development to improve overall performance and talent level.
* Ensures design standards are maintained and updated. Ensures all proprietary technical information is closely held and not shared externally.
* Keeps apprised of technology developments and applicability with our products to grow our revenue, expand our product offerings, lower cost, etc.
* Ensures compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations and practices throughout the department.
Additional Responsibilities (other requirements):
* Helps define and support the need for capital equipment.
* Travels to PKOH sites and customer locations as needed.
* Has a positive impact on all company personnel, customers, suppliers, etc.
Education, Training, Experience Required:
* Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of ten years in Automotive Engineering roles, including a minimum of five years at a Manager/Director level. Master's in Engineering or MBA strongly preferred. Rubber Chemistry background required. Rubber & Plastic hose experience strongly preferred.
* Successful candidates should have a thorough knowledge of engineering fundamentals, rubber chemistry, extrusion, hose design principles, product and production processes, Automotive OEM procedures, quality assurance techniques, and tools such as statistical process control, 8-D problem solving techniques, product testing, team work and interpersonal skills as well as an understanding of Lean principles and organizational procedures.
