Engineering Director plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Being an Engineering Director utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Additionally, Engineering Director manages overall engineering budget and costs. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to top management. The Engineering Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Engineering Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Job Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the Current Product Engineering department and Research & Development team by providing them training, leadership, mentorship and guidance.
• Drive and oversee the complete Product Development lifecycle by collaborating with cross functional teams to align product strategies and successfully deliver innovative products.
• Establish and improve Engineering processes, standards, and best practices for efficient and effective product development.
• Designing to established Cost Targets.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and 10 years of experience in a leadership role within the engineering department, preferably in an OE manufacturing industry
• Strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering and product development
• Excellent leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to motivate cross-functional teams and develop engineering talent
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Programs; MRP/ERP business software as well as Engineering software tools such as CAD & FEA software
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to develop detailed project plans and timelines
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to think critically and strategically
• Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record for travel
