Incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Additionally, Engineering Director manages overall engineering budget and costs. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to top management.     Laboratory-focused material scientist with materials application engineering capability. Responsible for lab operations and analysis supporting development, qualification, and forensic investigation of power generation components manufactured from castings and wrought products utilized in industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and plant support systems.

    Job Description

    Essential Responsibilities:

    Laboratory-Focused

    • Improve on-site metallurgical laboratory capabilities to address engineering needs for analysis and characterization. Maintain laboratory facilities for compliance with site environmental, health, and safety requirements.
    • Facilitate metallurgical sample preparation by sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching.
    • Contribute toward research and development program activities on new materials and processes to support new power generation product introductions.
    • Perform root cause and corrective action analyses to troubleshoot problems with current material systems, component designs, and manufacturing processes.
    • Lead metallurgical investigations on fractured components received from the field and report findings to cross-functional teams.
    • Conduct material property testing programs and issue technical reports on the findings.

    Engineering Focused

    • Lead development and qualification efforts for power generation components manufactured from structural castings and forgings utilized in industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and plant support systems.
    • Work together with cross-functional teams to perform supplier assessments, identify qualification requirements, and execute supplier qualifications which meet production fulfillment schedules.
    • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through new processing methods and alternate materials.
    • Control and improve quality of components by creation and revision of specifications.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science & Engineering or related field
    • Two years of combined experience in materials or process engineering or experience in a laboratory environment.
    • Flexibility in handling a diverse and challenging workload
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills
    • US Citizen or Green Card

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Advanced degree in Materials Engineering or related field
    • Experience with metallurgical sample preparation (metallography) and laboratory oversight.
    • Experience with investment casting, die casting, sandcasting, and/or heat treatment operations
    • Knowledge of cast iron and cast steel material systems and melting practices
    • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification
    • Experience with mechanical testing
    • Experience conducting supplier audits
    • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes
    • Experience with heat treatment process control

    For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $79,400 - 119,000 USD Annual.

    The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

    This position is also eligible for a yearly performance bonus of 5%.

    • The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
