    Account Services Manager

    SUPERVISES: Patient Account Technicians

    Patient Account Technician II

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Responsibilities include supervising a team of Patient Account Technicians on Accounts Receivable and Cash Receipts/Collection functions, while directly partnering with other department supervisors on best practices and process improvements. Ensuring the Patient Accounts Technicians are properly trained in all policies and procedures relating to their duties. Ensuring all A/R, Billings, Collections, and Reporting are completed on a timely basis.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervises the daily, monthly, and annual activities in the Billing Department
    • Oversees Accounts Receivables and works with the Patient Account Technician II to monitor aging accounts for collections and/or claims follow up.
    • Assists with daily billing duties as needed.
    • Answers all billing inquiries in a timely accurate manner.
    • Coordinates activities and schedules work assignments to meet billing deadlines including month end reporting requirements
    • Works with Account Services Manager to provide extensive training and guidance to front office support staff regarding billing and insurance issues
    • Coordinates with Coding staff and other departments to keep them informed of relevant billing/coding changes and updates as needed.
    • Stays current with ICD/CPT/ADA coding guidelines and regulations.
    • Ensures billing staff follow all credit and collection laws.
    • Makes determinations and participates in developing policies and procedures regarding patient billing.
    • Maintains/Monitors electronic files, claims submissions, contracts and EFT payments
    • Posts patient and insurance payments electronically or manually
    • Files appeals and CIFS to Medi-Cal as necessary on all denied or outstanding claims.
    • Communicates with the Account Services Manager any concerns that may interfere with the timely claim processing.
    • Works to continually improve billing processes to increase efficiencies and maximize collections.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Experience and Skills:


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 5 recent years’ experience in Medical Billing/AR
    • In-depth knowledge of billing and collection practices.
    • 2 years coding experience; certification is helpful but not required
    • Previous experience with Indian Health Facilities is preferred
    • Knowledge of Medi-Cal and Medicare Programs (CMS)
    • Basic understanding of EMR/EHR concepts to include integrated software packages and databases.
    • Basic knowledge of computer security and data privacy concepts.
    • Thorough understanding of federal laws and regulations regarding Indian Health Services’ eligibility regulations and rules.
    • Effective Written and verbal communication skills.
    • Able to organize, adapt and prioritize daily tasks independently.
    • 2 years of direct supervision of employees in a medical setting.
    • Effective interpersonal skills in maintaining work relationships and in guiding co-workers.
    • Commitment to maintain confidentiality as it relates to patients and co-workers.
    • Sensitivity to those with different lifestyles and to the Native American culture.
    • Willing to learn and to attend trainings as needed.
    • Valid California Driver’s License.
    • Current CPR Certification.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
