Job Summary: Serve as Director, Accounting – Hospitals to direct accounting activities, including managing month-end and year-end closing, journal entry processing, and account reconciliations for the hospital organizational divisions within LLUH. Develop and maintain a model for recording contractual adjustments to patient revenue with the Patient Billing Office. Coordinate with the Reimbursement Manager to accurately record third-party billings and related revenue and expenses. Responsible for General Accounting functional area as part of a centralized Financial Services structure in a cost-efficient, productive and effective manner that complies with internal policies and procedures. Maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulations and LLUH standards. Monitor the effectiveness of internal controls for the General Accounting functions. Ensure optimization of processes and continually seek to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of workflows and processes. Ensure all financial activities and transactions are recorded timely, accurately, and in accordance with GAAP. Work with other finance leads and staff to ensure timely and accurate data flow and recording of transactions. Support the timely preparation and review of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Direct, review and approve the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and other activities. Supports the Financial Reporting Analysts in the reconciliation of inter-company activity and the preparation of month-end consolidated financial statements and variance reports to track non-recurring and/or unusual financial activity. Coordinate and facilitate the work and requests of internal and external auditors. Provide leadership and support in such areas as quality budget, effective productivity measurement tools, employee relations, strategic initiatives and other areas.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or related field, plus five (5) years of progressive accounting or auditing experience; working with journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end and year-end close process; reviewing financial statements to ensure accordance with applicable accounting and reporting framework or standards; training and assisting accounting or auditing staff. Must have at least four (4) years of experience in leadership, supervisory or senior accounting or auditing role including higher education or healthcare projects or clients. Some telecommuting permissible.
