Enterprise Infrastructure Director manages and coordinates the information systems that will adequately support the organization's enterprise infrastructure. Monitors and manages all IT infrastructure projects to meet company and client needs. Being an Enterprise Infrastructure Director determines current and future enterprise infrastructure needs, ensuring the scalability of infrastructure design to handle expected growth. Implements policies and procedures to maintain, enhance, and secure an organization's technology infrastructure. Additionally, Enterprise Infrastructure Director is responsible for monitoring the systems to ensure the highest level of infrastructure performance. May assist in network interface planning, hardware resource availability, and the development of new applications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Enterprise Infrastructure Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be an Enterprise Infrastructure Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture

    This is a full-time, permanent, remote position.

     

    As the Senior Director of Enterprise Architecture, you will be the leading voice for setting and maintaining architectural standards and practices within the agency, especially crucial in advancing public health technologies. Your role encompasses overseeing the integration and effectiveness of both cloud and on-premise technologies, with a significant emphasis on leading AI projects aimed at bolstering the resilience and efficiency of public health systems. Your contributions will be instrumental in steering the agency toward innovation and ensuring our strategies are well-aligned with overarching goals.

     

    In this capacity, you'll offer strategic guidance and advanced expertise in Enterprise Architecture to key figures within the agency, including the Deputy Chief of Innovation & Technology and the Chief Information Officer. Your responsibilities will cover the gamut from guiding the agency's IT architecture, ensuring security protocols are up to scratch, to setting policies and standards that support our mission's current and future needs. You'll lead by example, providing mentorship to both teams and individuals, enhancing our Enterprise Architecture program's stature and effectiveness. Your leadership will extend beyond internal operations as you represent the agency in external collaborations, working towards shared goals and solutions with peers across other agencies, thereby reducing redundancy and fostering a culture of cooperation and shared success.

     

    Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership and Governance

    • Lead the development and communication of the agency's IT Architecture vision, ensuring alignment with agency goals through strategic leadership.
    • Establish and enforce architecture governance processes to maintain standards and best practices across all technology initiatives, including cloud and on-premise solutions.
    • Spearhead AI initiatives to enhance public health response capabilities, coordinating with cross-functional teams on COVID-related projects.
    • Represent the agency in statewide technology discussions, developing policies and standards that guide IT component selection and security.

    Legacy Modernization and Cloud Platforms

    • Drive the strategy and execution of modernizing legacy systems, ensuring alignment with technological advancements and business needs.
    • Design and implement architectures for legacy system integration or replacement, leading cross-functional teams through the modernization process.
    • Define and enforce architectural standards for cloud-based platforms (e.g., Salesforce, ServiceNow, Dynamics), ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.
    • Evaluate cloud platform capabilities and establish guidelines for adoption, regularly reviewing implementations for adherence to standards.

    Communication Excellence

    • Collaborate with leadership teams to allocate project resources, participating in IT strategic planning and overall leadership.
    • Engage in professional development, staying informed on emerging technologies and management practices.
    • Support organizational changes that enhance efficiencies and services, promoting leadership competencies within the team.

    Enterprise Architecture Program Management

    • Provide expert-level direction on Enterprise Architecture to agency leadership and staff, ensuring system integration drives innovation and business performance.
    • Lead a high-functioning team in leveraging IT as a strategic asset, developing technical proposals and supporting enterprise efforts like the Open Data Initiative.
    • Ensure projects and activities comply with architectural, security, and policy standards, contributing to informed public health decisions.

     

    Required Qualifications and Experience:

    Experience and education may have been gained concurrently. Experience can substitute for education on a year for year basis.

     

    To qualify for this position, you must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience managing and controlling IT budgets of at least $1 million dollars AND meet one of the following options:

    • Option 1: At least 10 years of work experience in any of these areas: designing IT systems, managing projects, developing applications or systems, managing data, analyzing IT for business, or securing IT systems. Your experience should include working with both cloud services and traditional in-office technology.

     

    • Option 2: A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a similar field and have at least 10 years of experience working in high-level IT roles like IT Enterprise Architect, Deputy CIO, IT Director, or IT Manager.

     

    • Option 3: A Master's degree in computer science or a similar field and at least 8 years of experience in top IT positions such as Deputy CIO, IT Director, or IT Manager.

     

    Preferred Experience and Desired Qualifications:

    • Three (3) or more years of experience operating within an Enterprise Architecture framework (such as NACIO, Zachmann, TOGAF, or DoDAF).
    • Demonstrated experience in managing an Enterprise Architecture program consisting of multiple EA domains within the past six years.
    • ITIL Certification (Foundation, Intermediate, Managing Across the Lifecycle, Expert or ITIL Master.)
    • Four (4) or more years of experience in strategic planning/performance and accountability tracking within an IT organization.

    Location and Flexibility 

    This is a hybrid position meaning you’ll predominantly work remotely from your home location and may reside anywhere in Washington State, as well as the Oregon/Washington border and the Idaho/Washington border. Attending events or working In-office will be required once a quarter and would be scheduled in advance at the DOH office located in Tumwater, WA.
