Description
The Director of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for assisting in developing, implementing, and administering all aspects of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management Program, consistent with the Board’s strategic objectives and risk appetite.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Chief Risk Officer to develop and oversee the strategic aspects of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management program. This includes overseeing policies and procedures, risk assessment methodology, risk inventory, control inventory, change management and information, communication and reporting.
- Oversees and directs the execution of risk assessments in accordance with the Bank’s Risk Assessment policies and procedures to ensure that all required risk assessments are completed in accordance with the Bank’s risk assessment methodology for products, services, business units and corporate functions, as applicable, to identify, measure and control risks that may impact the organization’s ability to achieve its strategic goals and objectives.
- Oversees the Bank’s procedures for monitoring the exposure to new, emerging or existing risks to established risk limits, including identifying triggers for reassessment of risk severity, as necessary.
- Works with line of business leaders and teams to prioritize, select and implement appropriate and efficient risk responses based on risk assessment results.
- Assists the Chief Risk Officer in developing and analyzing an enterprise-wide view of risk to allow management and the Board to consider the type, severity, and interdependencies of risks and how they impact performance.
- Oversees the third-party risk management program to ensure appropriate due diligence and ongoing monitoring of third-parties, including fintech partner relationships. This includes timely identification and remediation of identified issues.
- Develops and maintains relationships between risk management and line of business leaders to ensure the effective implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management Program across the Bank, while actively promoting a solution-oriented environment throughout the department.
- Works with line of business leaders and teams to identify policy and procedural enhancements, in reference to new, modified or expanded products and services, including planning and execution of appropriate internal controls to mitigate identified risks.
- Responsible for overseeing the Bank’s Issues Management policies and procedures to ensure that identified issues and appropriately tracked, responded to and remediated in a timely manner.
- Provides periodic reports to Executive Leadership and Board Committees on industry trends, state of the Enterprise Risk Program (including completed risk assessments, significant risk exposures and issues management), key risk and performance indicators, and the status of key initiatives.
- Responsible for coordinating with the Bank’s outsourced internal audit function to ensure efficiency between the second and third line of defense functions. This also includes coordinating with line of business leaders and teams to provide requested information and responses to the outsourced internal audit team on a timely basis and escalating any potential internal audit scheduling conflicts or concerns to the Audit and Compliance Committee, as appropriate.
- Maintains an awareness of company goals, regulatory and legislative developments, and industry trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Risk Officer or Executive Leadership.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree, at minimum, required.
- 10 yearsbanking experience, required.
- 5 years related experience in risk management or internal audit functions, preferred.
- Experience with financial institutions supporting fintech partner relationships, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Extensive understanding of enterprise risk management and internal control frameworks with demonstrated research and implementation skills.
- Strong investigative, written, and oral communication skills.
- Strong commitment to ethics, and the ability to build consensus and understand variety of issues and perspectives.
- Strong understanding of the banking industry, including bank partnerships with fintech companies.
- Management experience leading teams within the banking industry.
- Ability to engage with third parties, including auditors, regulators and fintech partners, to effectively communicate aspects of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management Program.
- Strong teamwork skills to effectively partner with business unit leaders and other senior executives.
- Strong leadership skills, to guide organizational change and collaborate with key partners across various levels.
- Ability to simplify difficult concepts and challenges by thinking analytically.
