    The mission of the Allen Institute Central IT Team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.

    The Enterprise IT infrastructure Manager is responsible for the security, availability, durability, and uptime of Allen Institute IT infrastructure supporting enterprise services, networking, and data center facilities. In this hands-on leadership role, you will be contributing alongside your team with a focus on IT infrastructure project delivery, technical strategy, and systems architecture for institute hardware, cloud solutions, and network technologies. You will provide implementation oversight of scalable solutions that overcome both technology and business challenges. In this position, you will drive a culture of collaboration and partnership with teams inside and outside of technology.

    The ability to work a flexible off-hours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance is required. Team coverage includes rotating on-call duties and responding to production incidents within established SLAs providing 24/7/365 support as needed. This will be an approximately 80% management, 20% hands-on technical role.

    Essential Functions

    • Provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, technical vision, project planning, and prioritization to a team of hardware, cloud, network, and business systems engineers and administrators
    • Lead translation and mapping of business requirements to define objectives for IT infrastructure needs as well as design to develop and implement quality, cost-effective solutions
    • Evaluate new technologies and trends for IT infrastructure operations to improve efficiency and effectiveness through thorough business case justifications and value propositions
    • Collaborate with other technical management to identify, implement and maintain new innovations and industry standards for IT infrastructure management, deployment, and change management
    • Manage the design, engineering, specification, installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network and systems components to provide secure, predictable access to Allen Institute sites and data stores
    • Provide leadership for the Enterprise IT Infrastructure team as lead technical architect for IT infrastructure systems and networks
    • Build and maintain IT network and data servers & systems
    • Ensure effective information sharing with and between a highly-skilled technical staff through robust documentation, project management & direct coordination
    • Mentor and develop staff technical and customer service skills
    • Develop and maintain supportable, industry-leading policies and procedures for the Enterprise IT Infrastructure team
    • Identify and lead training opportunities to address operational and organizational gaps in IT Infrastructure operations
    • Manage adherence to company and industry policies, standards and guidelines
    • Provide on-call support and technical escalation points for site, systems, and network support during normal business hours and off-hours
    • Develop, establish and implement measurable standards (KPI’s) for service delivery, service support, and problem resolution as they apply to the Enterprise IT Infrastructure team
    • Manage Enterprise IT Infrastructure team budget providing cost-effective, data-driven proposals for review by departmental leadership

    Required Education and Experience

    • Minimum 9 years of experience in IT infrastructure & Operations
    • Minimum 7 years of experience managing or supervising IT Infrastructure teams
    • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting highly available (24X7, >99% uptime) production systems in an enterprise environment
    • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, computer science, math, or other science fields, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
    • Demonstrated history of exceptional performance and delivery in management and solution design of multiple IT infrastructure technologies including systems, network, storage, compute, and digital workspace
    • Demonstrated history of managing complex projects to completion to strict timelines and budgets using IT industry standards
    • Demonstrated history of exceptional team building and team management in a highly adaptive enterprise environment
    • Knowledge of IT infrastructure concepts and architecture including data center facilities, OS, hypervisor, network, storage, and security
    • Experience operating, managing, and/or engineering virtual private or public cloud compute services such as Azure
    • Knowledge of Microsoft server technology stack including Active Directory, MS SQL, SSO, MFA, and Windows
    • Working knowledge of industry-standard information security policies and best practices
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of network engineering and systems administration

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Knowledge of enterprise systems including Mac and Windows server and end-user device & support best practices
    • Able to deal effectively with a wide variety of people, manage risk and instill trust in others
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and well organized

    • Ability to balance competing priorities

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    • Must be able to respond to off-hours emergencies
    • This is a critical job and expected to report for work regardless of weather conditions
    • Rotating evening and weekend on-call coverage
    • This role is currently working onsite and is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with the flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis

    Travel

    • Attendance and participation in national and international conferences may be occasionally required

    Annualized Salary Range

    $124,050 - $181,950*

    * Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
