Env., Health, and Safety Engineer implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineer is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineer serves as contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor. To be an Env., Health, and Safety Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     RHI Magnesita is seeking a dynamic Field Health and Safety Officer to work remotely. This position will be a road warrior with 75% travel. This role may occasionally work holidays and weekends.


    The Field Health and Safety Officer will monitor health and safety, assess risk, and design strategies to reduce potential hazards within an assigned workplace or geographic area. The Field Health and Safety Officer will partner with our Field Leadership across the United States to develop effective and progressive safety solutions to drive a culture of excellence and performance improvement with sustainable change. This position will work closely with field teams to successfully plan, develop, review, and administer proactive safety and health programs.


    The tasks include:

    • Aligning global requirements to regional actions and deliverables while working with the local sites to achieve safety targets.
    • Reviewing, implementing, and providing overall guidance for implementation of US safety programs such as behavior-based safety programs. Non-routine task evaluations, risk assessments, and general corporate safety policies and programs.
    • Monitoring and ensuring OSHA 300 and OSHA Log/MSHA part 46 and part 48 compliance, identifying gaps, and developing appropriate policies, while helping field-based leadership eliminate the gaps.
    • Lead full cycle, post-accident investigations, determined the root cause, developed effective & timely action plans.
    • Identifying and sharing best practices, ensuring implementation within the regional field teams.
    • Educating and helping to continue to develop H&S knowledge across the field employee base.
    • Developing site safety plans for various projects
    • Immediately notify the customer and RHI Magnesita Senior Management of any on-site incidents.
    • Ensuring ethical conduct in internal relationships and with business partners.

    About you

    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental or technical discipline, or business program from an accredited college or university OR relevant safety certification preferred
    • OSHA 30 and MSHA part 46 Certification preferred
    • Knowledge of local regulatory compliance for OSHA, and MSHA,
    • 3-5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety leadership role working in industrial construction / MSHA mining preferred
    • Experience building safety plans for work sites
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Can successfully influence a team through indirect leadership.
    • Experience facilitating and creating training plans
    • Experience facilitating critical conversations to develop win/win solutions in a high stress, fast-paced and complex structures
