Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager plans, develops and manages company policies for adhering to local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Designs and develops facilities, work areas and work procedures. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager directs preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.     RESPONSIBILITIES


    Ensure that Health, Safety and Environment Management systems and practices at the factory and site installations are developed, implemented, maintained, and continually improved according to company and relevant external standards and requirements.

    Additionally, you will provide professional timely advice and support to the Agorus manufacturing and construction teams to ensure continuous improvement in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) systems, programs, and performance to eliminate non-conformances and above all ensure we protect our employees, our products, and our environment.  

      

    40% Health & Safety

    • In conjunction with the Plant Manager and Manufacturing Team, implement and improve the factory health and safety action plan (FAP) and schedule, updating for additional factory-specific improvement activities and monitor the FAP and escalate concerns when necessary.
    • In conjunction with the Regional Superintendent(s), implement and improve the construction health and safety action plan (CAP), updating for additional site-specific improvement activities and monitor the CAP and escalate concerns when necessary.
    • Meet with Agorus key managers regularly - provide update on key items and items for escalation.
    • Oversee Site Incident Notifications – descriptions and categories and determine investigation required. Where necessary escalate to Director of Manufacturing or Director of Construction, as appropriate. Ensure the incident management and investigation procedure is followed by all personnel.
    • Oversee Incident Investigations for all moderate and above rated incidents, injuries, or near miss events.
    • Participate in Serious Safety Incident (SSI) Investigations under the leadership of the Vice President of Operations.
    • In consultation with the factory floor staff and management, periodically review investigation reports completed by People Leaders for quality and provide feedback.
    • Complete site HSE reporting – weekly, monthly, and quarterly, including progress against the Plans and site schedule.
    • Chair the Monthly HSE Committee
    • Design and implement required site-specific training modules and meetings.
    • Track internal trainings in Safesite system.
    • Participate in regional HSE meetings – sharing initiatives, best practices, and challenges.
    • Review quality of site risk assessments, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Competency Assessments and provide coaching to develop skills, ensure reviews are completed as agreed in site schedule.
    • Review the Site Risk Profile and ensure it is updated with accurate information. Escalate to the appropriate Director and the HSE Committee any risk assessment with a residual risk.
    • Ensure effective application of Change Management processes to all change projects / tasks / equipment / chemicals on site, with risk assessments completed, SOPs and Competency Assessment requirements completed/update.
    • Collaborate with managers to facilitate core processes at site level, such as Hazard Management, Incident Investigation, Injury Management and Contractor Management.
    • Ensure Agorus factory(s) in compliance with all regulations and codes regarding Hazardous Materials and accurately communicated to Agorus Landlord(s).

    30% Communication & Reporting

    • Participate in management team and HSE Committee activities to ensure company strategy and direction is clearly communicated.
    • Ensure messaging, reporting and support systems are relevant, concise, focused, and embedded into Agorus does.
    • Ensure key performance indicator (KPI) data is collated, analysed, reported, and interpreted for managers and relevant committees.
    • Manage the investigation, analysis and correction of critical health, safety and environment events / incidents and prepare relevant company and statutory reports.
    • Manage the provision of regular transparent Health, Safety and Environment performance monitoring information and associated accountability to all levels of the business.

    30% Relationships

    • Liaise closely with management, work area teams and construction personnel in the development, review and implementation of health, safety and environment standards and systems to deliver compliance that is practical, sustainable, and effective at the operator level.
    • Demonstrate leadership with management teams and stakeholders to develop systems, factory and site improvements and plans to deliver on annual KPIs.
    • Develop and promote positive links with statutory authorities, other company sites and functions, and other external parties as appropriate.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    •  Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in HSE risk management, environmental science, or other continuous improvement management systems
    • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Work Health and Safety, Environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field is   desirable
    • Previous experience in a safety leadership role 
    • Negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and change-management skills.
    • Organizational, people management and time management skills
    • Team coaching and development skills.
    • Development, implementation, and auditing of accredited continuous improvement management systems (Safety systems)
    • Managing risk identification, assessment, and control programs
    • Strategic planning and organization capability development
    • Training program development and presentation skills
    • High level of competency in writing, analysis, preparation of submissions and presentation skills
    • Generally, an office and manufacturing environment 
    • Minimal exposure to outdoor weather conditions e.g. extreme heat, cold, rain and wind.

    • Understand Agorus’ current processes
    • Training for Microsoft Teams
    • Work with Agorus HSE consultant and Agorus MFG team to understand current state, gaps, and immediately planned improvements
    • Work with Agorus stakeholders (Dir of MFG primarily, secondarily Dir of CNS) to build the HSE roadmap with specific deliverables
    • Identify any potential hiring gaps
    • Understand Agorus future Product roadmap and identify HSE concerns, opportunities, etc
    • Understand Agorus future Tech (Robotics, in particular) roadmap
    • Understand Agorus MFG plans and HSE requirements

    First 60 Days

    • Apply your skills and technical knowledge
    • Deep dive into Agorus' product roadmap and strategy to fully grasp our mission and vision
    • Begin executing HSE Roadmap in accordance with Dir of MFG's guidance, deliver the deliverables in conjunction with the MFG and CNS teams
    • Begin hiring any potential needs identified in first 30 days

    First 90 Days

    • Build out SOPs into a replicable playbook for licensing (Agorus 2.0)
    • Re-evaluate and improve HSE implementation, take feedback from stakeholders, and identify areas for future growth
    • Provide reporting to Agorus executives on state of HSE programs, identify areas for strategic improvement and future goals.
