Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager plans, develops and manages company policies for adhering to local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Designs and develops facilities, work areas and work procedures. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager directs preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to environmental, health, and safety engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     GENERAL OVERVIEW

    Leads, manages, and coordinates Life Safety and Environment of Care as it applies to Facility’s Emergency Preparedness.  Leads the safety and emergency management functions and serves as the officer for these respective areas.                                            

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Directs and ensures compliance with all authorities having jurisdiction (Safety, Fire and Life Safety regulations (20%)
    • Maintains scheduling of Vendors Performing Life Safety & Environment of Care testing/ Inspection (20%)
    • Maintain all Life Safety & Environment of Care Paperwork per Joint Commission Standards (20%)
    • Leads the Disaster Committee and serves as the hospital's Emergency Preparedness Coordinator (10%)
    • Perform Fire Door Inspections (10%)
    • Perform Interim Life Safety Assessments (5%)
    • Manage Fire Drills (5%)
    • Leads the Safety Committee (5%)
    • Leads the Environment of Care Committee (5%)

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum

    • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science, Healthcare Management, Business, Engineering or similar  OR  Four years of relevant, progressive experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree

    Preferred

    • 2 years of experience with the National Fire Protection Association’s Life Safety Code
    • Certified  Life Safety Specialist for Health Care Facility Managers; issued by National Fire Protection Association
