JOB:
A Public Safety Officer serves in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. This consists of routine vehicle and foot patrol, as well as preliminary investigations and traffic regulation duties. Public Safety Officers are unique in that these individuals also work closely with the Fire and Rescue Departments and are often cross-trained to serve shoulder-to-shoulder with certified and volunteer personnel in service of the citizens of the City of Daleville. This position involves an element of personal danger and Public Safety Officers must honorably conduct themselves without direct supervision, exercising independent judgment in responding to emergencies. Special assignments and overtime opportunities are available. Certified and Uncertified applicants to be considered.
PREFERRED APPLICANTS SHOULD:
- Have some knowledge of police methods, practices and procedures and the ability to apply this knowledge.
- Have some knowledge of the geography of the city and the location of important buildings, or the aptitude to quickly learn this information.
- Hold current law enforcement certification in good standing (APOST preferred)
ALL APPLICANTS MUST:
- Have knowledge and experience in the safe and skillful use of firearms
- Be able to remember names, faces, and details of incidents and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Be able to conduct themselves respectfully, but firmly with the public.
- Be able to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action, with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances.
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Complete a pre-employment drug, psych, and physical screening
**Uncertified officers are those who have not successfully completed the Alabama Police Academy. These officers serve in the role of a trainee, and some administrative requirements, until they graduate the Academy.
Uncertified officers start at $15 an hour until they graduate Academy, then move to certified starting pay at $16 an hour.
Upon Graduation, the Officer will have a 2 year contractual obligation to Daleville Department of Public Safety.
