    What does the Compliance Specialist - Rehabilitation Services do?

    Conduct on site reviews of documentation and provide related compliance oversight and assistance to meet contractual and organizational requirement. Coordinates and oversees all activities related to federal, state and agency programmatic compliance specialist.

    Job Duties

    • Knowledge in CMS requirements with ability to convey requirements to others.
    • Meet with state and federal auditors and provides necessary documentation as requested during the audits.
    • Conducts on-going reviews of client service documentation, documents and communicates finding to appropriate personnel.
    • Provides staff with training to improve service delivery and documentation.
    • Assists compliance manager and program managers with overseeing training log at the location and maintaining required training documentation (copies of certifications/licenses, communication of any upcoming trainings etc.)
    • Conducts periodic and random checks of various required logs (i.e. Red book, time studies, training log, DDS policy/alerts/advisories) and informs required personnel and assists as appropriate in gathering the documentation.
    • Conduct case record reviews and assists Rehabilitation Counselors with identifying missing documentation. May be involved with the requests of missing documentation.
    • Assist with ensuring that the required postings are visible at program sites.
    • Receives copies of Plans of Correction and checks to ensure that they have been implemented.
    • Assists gathering emergency drills, facility reports, and other required documentation for monthly safety committee.
    • Conducts annual satisfaction survey for customers.
    • Assists with gathering information and tabulating data as needed for URR reviews, performance reviews, CARF, NISH, QWE, and other compliance or accreditation entities.
    • Determines training needs through communicating with supervisors and managers, knowledge of state and federal mandates and employee needs and interest.
    • Reviews and interprets pertinent laws and regulations. Makes recommendations for policy/procedural changes.
    • Makes recommendations for policy/procedural changes.
    • Formulates training program goals and objectives.
    • Develops course objectives and curriculum to meet the specific training needs. Continually evaluates the effectiveness and relevance of training programs and modifies as needed.
    • Identifies most appropriate training method to accomplish the objective and evaluates on an ongoing basis in order to maximize the training outcomes.
    • Provides consultation and assistance to agency managers and other agency trainers.
    • Acts as a liaison with area agencies and funding sources to ensure compliance with all mandated training.
    • Researches, develops, and maintains instructional materials for staff.
    • Assists with, as time permits, the agency’s abuse and neglect investigations including but not limited to assignments, investigating, reviewing and making recommendations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and education requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Minimum of (3) years in a role dealing heavily with Compliance.

    Physical Demands

    The Compliance Specialist position is not a physically demanding position. The incumbent will be required to sit and type for long periods of time. The incumbent will not have to be exposed to weather, due to the fact that they will be inside for the majority of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
