    Description

ESA is looking for a Compliance Specialist with 5 years of technical, professional writing experience, and leadership in the biological resources and/or construction compliance field. You will be working remotely, or in a hybrid fashion, in support of a project in the Central Valley/Fresno Area. You can work well in a large team in a fast-paced environment in a company where leadership, collaboration, delivery, and the desire to learn and grow are highly valued.

    Who We Are

We are a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm who values diversity and inclusion and celebrate the differences that make each of us unique. Our culture is built on mutual respect, recognizing that our variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives leads to better solutions, which fosters our continued success for our employee-owners and clients.

    Who You Are

You are an experienced biologist or environmental compliance specialist with excellent technical writing skills, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team atmosphere. Your job history includes a demonstration of leadership, client interfacing, decision-making, meeting facilitation, permit compliance, assignment coordination, deliverables tracking reporting, and collaboration with team members. You have five or more years of experience conducting research, analyzing impacts, and writing sections of environmental or construction compliance reports. You possess a basic to skilled understanding of environmental regulations, policies, and principles in California. Familiarity with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), similar state/federal regulations, or resource-related permit applications is highly preferred.

You are known for preparing documents that are clear, concise, well-written, and supported. You can present information, including written reports, maps and figures, and client correspondence understandably and quickly to clients, regulatory agency staff, teaming partners, and other stakeholders. You have the ability to interpret environmental commitments and permit measures and can work collaboratively with technical specialists to apply your interpretations in highcomplexity situations. Experience with data collection applications such as Fulcrum, ArcGIS Field Maps, and Survey 123 desirable. Likewise, you have experience adhering to detailed QA/QC protocols to ensure documents are adequately reviewed and accurate and can effectively review and edit others' written work.

You are an effective team member and team leader who works collaboratively towards the completion of deliverables. While consistently demonstrating your leadership, project coordination, and writing skills, you thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and are able to balance multiple responsibilities and deadlines, both when working on a team or independently. You are solution-oriented and proactive in identifying issues and communicating them to the team. You can identify and prioritize competing tasks or issues and effectively delegate, communicate, or elevate issues to management. You hold a bachelor's degree, major coursework in environmental, biological, or a related interdisciplinary field is preferred.

You can schedule and track complex deliverables and are proficient with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with digital field data collection tools such as GPS, ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps, Fulcrum, and Survey 123 is desired, but not required. You hold a bachelor's degree in biology or a related environmental field.

You are located anywhere within the United States but can consistently work Pacific Standard Time (PST) hours. You are comfortable working remotely, or in a hybrid fashion from one of our offices, and can occasionally travel, if necessary. You also hold a valid driver's license.

What You Will Do for ESA

You may serve as task manager, deputy project manager, and/or contributing author for environmental compliance and construction compliance documentation.

You will be responsible for coordinating, or assist in coordinating, tasks and project delivery schedules, handling project logistics, disseminating and maintaining related information and resources, assisting with budget tracking and invoicing, meeting with team members to gauge progress toward task completion, serving as the point person for team member or client questions, preparing or directing project research and analysis, and delivering written project reports on time and within budget.

You will consistently demonstrate your solid writing skills, contributing to complex environmental reports. You will participate in and/or lead client meetings, and present information understandably and speak persuasively about complex topics to clients, agency staff, teaming partners, other project stakeholders and the general public.

You thrive in a fast-paced, exciting, and challenging environment and can manage multiple/simultaneous responsibilities and deadlines, while working with a team or independently. You contribute to a meaningful large-scale transportation project throughout the state.

ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position the range, as the position is written, is generally $96,728-$145,092 annually based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.

San Francisco is located on the West Coast of the United States at the north end of the San Francisco Peninsula and includes significant stretches of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay within its boundaries. Several picturesque islands—Alcatraz, Treasure Island and the adjacent Yerba Buena Island, and small portions of Alameda Island, Red Rock Island, and Angel Island—are part of the city. Also included are the uninhabited Farallon Islands, 27 miles (43 km) offshore in the Pacific Ocean. The mainland within the city limits roughly forms a "seven-by-seven-mile square", a common local collo...
