    POSITION DESCRIPTION 

    HGL is currently seeking up to two Engineers to support environmental remediation projects nationwide. As an Engineer III, you will work with our high performing HGL Team and be responsible for supporting HGL’s portfolio of environmental remediation projects for the USEPA, USACE, USAF, NASA, and various agencies across the United States and territories. Projects may include remedial design support, oversight of remedial action (RA), in situ thermal treatment, remediation, demolition, mine-waste cleanup, landfill cap construction, contaminated sediment removals, and groundwater treatment (both in-situ and pump-and-treat) and stabilization projects.

    HGL is focusing its search in the following locations: West (Sacramento, CA; Billings, MT; and Denver, CO), Mid-West (Omaha, NE; Kansas City, KS), and East (Reston, VA; Knoxville, TN). Positions where HGL offices are located (Billings, Denver, Kansas City, and Reston) will be hybrid positions with some office attendance and travel required. All other locations will be fully remote with travel required. 

    Responsibilities/Duties

    WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING 

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

     

    • Developing engineering studies, plans, designs, and specifications for the remediation of environmental contamination
    • Interfacing with program and project managers, senior technical staff, the government customer, and RA Contractors.
    • Reporting of observations and compliance with contract documents.
    • Developing cost estimates and construction work plans for remedial construction
    • Review of specifications, drawings, work plans, and ongoing construction activities to assure compliance.
    • Management of project submittals.
    • Determining, communicating, and documenting deficiencies to ensure they are corrected in a timely manner.
    • Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
    • Understanding of remediation construction site health & safety (H&S) hazards.
    • Potential 25-50% travel within the U.S. as needed to support projects.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 

    The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

    • Minimum of 6 years of directly related experience in environmental industry.
    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as:  Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
    • Knowledge and experience of CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, and/or RCRA projects.
    • Strong technical writing and documentation experience with prior experience contributing to the preparation of remedial design documents that are technically sound and accurately reflect the project approach and requirements.
    • Ability to conduct completion inspections, document project status and maintain records. 
    • Working knowledge of Federal and state occupational regulations, including US Army Corps of Engineers and EM 385, 1-1 Safety and Health Manual.
    • Ability to prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings. 
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, RA Contractors, subcontractors, internal and external stakeholders, etc. 
    • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically in Excel and Word. 
    • Ability to work in a team environment with corporate, project, and technical management staff.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail. 

    WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT 

    • US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) CQM certification preferred, not required.
    • Experience working with USACE, USAF, EPA, or NASA clients.
    • Experience at a federal government remediation or construction sites. 
    • OSHA 40-hr. and 8-hr. HAZWOPER Training. 
    • M.S. degree in engineering field related to Environmental Studies.
    • EIT Certification (or capability to test and pass FE exam within one year) or Registered PE (or capability to obtain registration within one year), depending on experience.

The salary amount for this position ranges from $77,904-$116,855. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
