    Stantec is seeking a highly motivated entry-level Environmental Engineer to join our rapidly growing team and deliver projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment in our Mobile, Alabama office.

Team members are expected to be able to contribute to several areas of engineering and be an expert or developing expert in at least one or more of the following areas:

    • AutoCAD Civil3D
    • Hydrological Modeling
    • Natural Hazards, Flood and Coastal Risk Mapping
    • Field Measurements, Instrumentation, and Remote-Sensing
    • Coastal Hydrodynamics and Morphology
    • Coastal Management, Environmental Restoration, and Shoreline Enhancement
    • Construction Observations

    Your Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

    As an Environmental Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of successful engineering projects and will work as part of an integrated team to develop cost effective, practical plans, designs and construction solutions for our clients. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.
    • Communicate and apply an understanding the principles and practices of environmental, civil and/or coastal engineering.
    • Complete complex engineering calculations and modeling for the design or analysis of a range of project types, including those located in coastal environments and ecosystem restoration projects.
    • Provide engineering leadership at a project level task and working with other engineering staff to complete projects.
    • Complete tasks assigned by a Senior Coastal Engineer and works with other junior engineers to complete engineering studies and design projects.
    • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work.
    • Remaining current on regulatory policy and rule changes.
    • Maintain consistently high standards of delivery, quality, flexibility, and innovation.
    • Organize and interpret engineering data to prepare clear and concise design drawings, engineering reports and technical documentation.
    • Assist in obtaining State and Federal project permits and perform permit compliance.
    • Prepare project construction plans and specifications.
    • Field work responsibilities may include performing project construction observation, interpret contract documents, enforce contract specifications, and review submittals for accuracy, completeness and design consistency.
    • Communicate with co-workers, clients and the public in a professional manner including in a meeting or presentation.
    • Prioritize and accomplish multiple assignments efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.
    • Understand limitations of education and experience and bring problems beyond capability to supervisor's attention.
    • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to successfully meet shifting needs.
    • Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures.
    • Other work activities may include assisting in proposal efforts, preparation of labor/material estimates, design packages and deliverables, documenting technical data for management review and performing other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Civil, or Coastal Engineering with 0 to 3 years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above; Master of Science degree preferred. (PhD not required)
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations, as well as effective skills working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
    • Drafting and/or geospatial design (GIS and AutoCAD Civil3D).
    • Experience in application of numerical modeling tools for simulating circulation, waves, water quality, sediment transport, or mixing utilizing AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary Analysis, ICPR, BMP Trains, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS, is a major plus.
    • Fieldwork, such as reconnaissance, measurements, construction inspection, or instrument handling and deployment.
    • Computer programming (matlab, Python or similar) and navigating Linux environment.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project).
    • Completing design calculations for the coastal engineering practice: including marine structures, rubble mound structures, geotechnical/foundation designs, hydrodynamics/fluid mechanics, beach nourishment, dredge/fill, and sediment disposal site designs, is a major plus.
    • Coastal engineering analysis in support of coastal flood hazard studies under a predefined framework, specifically wave runup/overtopping analysis, and wave overland propagation analysis, is a major plus.
    • Assisting in the preparation of design plans and specifications for bidding and construction purposes.
    • Construction oversight and administration duties, including shop drawing approval, review of contractor surveys/progress reports, and execution of final certification(s) upon project completion.
    • Work deliverable examples may requested for interview.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to work in the field over rough terrain and in remote locations.
